Thanks for sharing your experience! I had that exact same problem with my CCC unit last year. Good to know I wasn't alone in this. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the full repair? And has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? These electronic issues can be tricky sometimes, and I'd like to know if I should expect any other related problems down the line.

Hey again! Yeah, after getting it fixed at the specialist shop, everything's been working perfectly fine, no more black screens or control unit communication errors. I actually just checked my old invoice since you asked, the total came to 235 € for diagnosing and fixing the CAN-BUS issue. Turns out I was wrong in my initial thoughts, it wasn't the CCC unit itself that needed replacing (which would've been way more expensive). The mechanic found some damaged wiring in the CAN-BUS system that was causing the communication breakdown. Once they sorted that out, the whole system came back to life. Been running smoothly for over a year now with no problems. Trust me, it was such a relief when it turned out to be a relatively simple fix rather than needing a complete unit replacement! I know in my first reply I said CAN-BUS issues are rare, but guess I was one of the lucky few who actually had that problem. Goes to show you really need proper diagnostics before jumping to conclusions. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise!

Thanks for the update! Well, I finally got my car checked out today. Funny enough, my issue turned out to be different from yours. The mechanic found that water had leaked into the trunk area, causing corrosion in some of the main connectors. They cleaned up the connections, fixed the leak spot, and got everything working again. Total bill came to about 180 for parts and labor, way less than I was expecting! They also showed me where the water was getting in and gave me some tips to prevent future issues. It's such a relief to have the system working properly again, no more black screens or frozen controls. The audio's crisp, the display's bright, and the iDrive's responding perfectly. Should've done this sooner instead of worrying about getting ripped off. Thanks again for helping me work up the courage to get it checked out. Sometimes these electronic issues aren't as scary (or expensive) as we think they'll be!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 3 Series 320d last year. The CCC system completely died, black screen, no response from any controls. Initially, I was worried it was a CAN-BUS fault, but after diagnostic testing, it turned out the CCC unit itself had failed. The head unit needed complete replacement, wasn't just a software issue. My mechanic checked all the connections and fiber optic cables first (MOST system), but they were fine. The main control unit was the culprit. It was quite a serious repair since these units are coded specifically to each vehicle. If you're having similar symptoms, I'd recommend getting it properly diagnosed first. The CAN-BUS is rarely the problem in these cases, it's usually either the unit itself or sometimes just loose connections. My advice: find a shop that specializes in BMW electronics. These systems are complex and need proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact issue.
