BMW iX Battery Drain: Terminal 30 Troubleshooting Help

Help needed with 2022 BMW iX electrical issues! My car's showing battery discharge warnings and struggles to start. Getting undervoltage errors in diagnostics. I suspect it might be related to Terminal 30 continuous plus, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and workshop solutions.

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs and went through something similar with my 2020 BMW i4. Also owned an iX3 before. Had the exact same symptoms, warning messages and startup problems. Turned out my battery was heavily discharged and needed replacement. I took it to my regular workshop, they ran diagnostics and confirmed the issue. The whole thing, including labor, set me back about 290 Euro but totally worth it as it fixed the problem completely. What's your current battery's state of health according to the diagnostics? Also, which iX variant do you have? This info would help me provide more specific advice based on my experience. Quick tip: If you're getting undervoltage errors, don't wait too long to get it checked. These issues can sometimes affect other electrical components if left unaddressed.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got the xDrive50 variant with 97441 KM, last serviced about 2 months ago. The diagnostics aren't showing any major battery health issues, which is what's making this even more confusing. The undervoltage warnings seem unusual, sometimes they pop up after charging, other times during regular driving. Appreciate the heads-up about potential damage to other components. Would you happen to remember if your workshop found any issues with the charging system itself? I'm thinking it might be worth getting the charging module checked before jumping straight to a battery replacement.

Hey again! Interesting that you mentioned the charging system, that actually reminds me of another detail from my experience that might be relevant. When I had my i4, before going for the battery replacement, my workshop did check the charging module and found it was working fine. But here's something interesting, they discovered that the voltage regulator was acting up, causing those unusual undervoltage warnings similar to what you're describing. In my case, even though the battery health seemed okay initially (just like yours), the inconsistent power delivery was the real culprit. The weird thing was that it would happen out of nowhere, just like you're experiencing. The workshop explained that modern EVs have super complex power management systems, and sometimes the issue isn't the battery itself but how the power is being regulated. Since you mentioned it happens after charging too, I'd definitely push for a thorough check of the entire charging system. The voltage regulator replacement on my i4 was actually cheaper than a full battery swap, and it solved all those unusual warnings. Have you noticed if the warnings are more frequent when using certain charging stations or at specific battery levels? This might help narrow down if it's a charging system issue like mine was.

Thanks so much for this detailed info, especially about the voltage regulator! That's actually super helpful because now that you mention it, I've noticed the warnings appear more frequently when I'm charging at home compared to public charging stations. I'm at around 40-60% battery level when it usually happens. I'll definitely get the voltage regulator checked out first. Just called the workshop and booked an appointment for next week. Really hoping it'll be the regulator rather than needing a full battery replacement, my warranty just expired last month! Thanks again for sharing your experience. It's given me a much clearer direction on what to check before jumping to expensive solutions. I'll update you once I get the diagnosis back!
