BMW iX Multiple Error Messages, Software Bug or Fault?

Hey all, any BMW iX (2022) owners experiencing multiple error messages? I'm getting warnings in both the infotainment system and instrument cluster, plus there's a stored error in the system memory. Seems like there might be a fault code issue. Has anyone dealt with something similar and got it fixed at their workshop? Would love to hear what the diagnosis was and how it was resolved.

Hey there! I've got some experience with EVs and ran into something really similar with my 2020 BMW i4. I actually have the M50 model too. Those error messages can be super annoying! Last year, I had multiple warnings popping up everywhere, both on the main screen and the driver display. Turned out it was a coding issue that needed to be sorted. The workshop had to reprogram several control modules to get everything working properly again. Cost me about 360 Euro, but it fixed all the warning messages. Before I share more specific details about my experience, could you tell me which exact error messages you're seeing and whether you've noticed any changes in how the car drives? Also, have you had any recent updates or maintenance done?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX is pretty fresh with just 32686 KM on the clock and had its last service about 3 months ago. The errors started popping up out of nowhere last week, it's mostly showing "Drive System Error" and "Vehicle Functions Limited." The car still drives fine, though, and the charging works normally. Haven't had any updates recently, which is what makes this even more puzzling. Really hoping I won't need a complete control module reprogramming like you did, but it's good to know that might be the solution. Did your error messages also come up out of nowhere, or was there a specific trigger?

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your iX. Yeah, my situation was pretty similar actually, the errors also started showing up out of nowhere, with no clear trigger. It's interesting that you mention your car's still driving and charging fine because that's exactly what happened with my i4 too! When I first got those messages, they would pop up out of nowhere during my drives, sometimes at startup, sometimes in the middle of a journey. Mine showed the same "Drive System Error" warning, though I also got a "Check Control Message" occasionally. The randomness of it was probably the most frustrating part. I initially thought I could just clear the errors by disconnecting the battery for a while (classic IT approach, right?), but they kept coming back. The workshop explained that newer EVs are super sensitive with their error reporting, sometimes even minor communication problems between modules can trigger these warnings. Since your iX is still pretty new and you've had recent service, I'd definitely take it back to the dealer. In my case, even though the car was driving fine, fixing it early prevented any potential bigger issues down the line. The control module reprogramming might sound scary, but it's actually a pretty standard procedure now with these high-tech EVs. By the way, did you notice if the errors appear more frequently after the car sits for a while, or is it completely unusual? This might help pinpoint if it's similar to what I experienced.

Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, these errors are completely unusual, sometimes they pop up right after I start the car, other times in the middle of driving. Just this morning, I got both warnings within 5 minutes of starting up, but then they disappeared after I parked and restarted. You're right about taking it to the dealer, I've actually booked an appointment for next week. Really hoping it's just a software glitch like yours was. The randomness is definitely the most frustrating part, especially since everything else works perfectly fine. The car drives great, charges normally, and all other features work as they should. It's just these persistent warnings that keep showing up. What's interesting is that after hearing your experience, I'm actually feeling a bit more relieved knowing it might just be a module programming issue rather than something more serious with the hardware. I appreciate the tip about getting it checked early, definitely don't want to risk any bigger problems down the line. Will update once I hear back from the dealer about what's causing these errors. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
