BMW iX Seat Controls Failed, Memory Settings Not Working

Hey! I have some experience working on EVs. I actually faced a similar issue with my 2021 BMW i4 (love the brand, also owned an iX3). The seat control module was acting up just like yours. Took it to my regular workshop and they found a loose connection in the seat wiring harness. The entire diagnostic and repair process took about 2 hours. Cost me 95 Euro to fix, mainly labor costs for tracing and securing the faulty cable connection. To help you better, could you share: Does this happen with all seat adjustment functions? Are there any other electrical glitches? Which error code are you seeing? Worth checking if it's still under warranty, as these electrical issues are usually covered.

Had the exact same problem with my iX! Just got it back from service last week (163851 KM on the clock). Mine turned out to be a faulty seat control module. The techs initially thought it was just a software glitch, but after running diagnostics, they found the module needed replacing. The fix wasn't too expensive since I'm still under warranty, but they mentioned it would've been around 300-400 without coverage. My advice would be to definitely get it checked out ASAP, these things can sometimes get worse if left unattended. Theyaged to sort mine out in about 3-4 hours. If you're getting the same error code I had (EC-32178), it's likely the same issue. The memory settings started working again immediately after the repair, and everything's been smooth sailing since then.

Hey again! Great to jump back in on this thread. Yeah, I remember mentioning my experience with the loose wiring harness on my i4, but after seeing your response about the control module, it got me thinking. Actually, after my initial repair with the wiring harness, I had a similar issue pop up again about two months later. Turned out I was wrong about it just being a loose connection, ended up being the same faulty control module you mentioned! Got the identical error code (EC-32178) and everything. Totally agree about getting it checked ASAP. I learned that lesson the hard way by waiting too long the second time around. The symptoms got progressively worse until none of the seat functions worked at all. The replacement module fixed everything perfectly though, all memory settings and adjustments working like new now. Mine was also covered under warranty, thankfully. Good to know the actual cost though, that 300-400 price range matches what my service advisor mentioned too. Really glad you shared your experience, makes me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one who ran into this specific issue with these models!

Thanks so much for sharing that follow-up experience! It's actually really reassuring to hear someone else went through the exact same progression with their BMW. I was a bit worried when they first mentioned replacing the control module, thinking maybe they were being too quick to swap out parts. Makes total sense about the symptoms getting worse over time, that's exactly why I rushed to get mine checked as soon as I noticed the issue. Smart call about the warranty coverage too. These newer electric models have such complex systems, it's definitely worth staying on top of any weird behavior right away. Really appreciate everyone's input on this. Seems like the control module issue is more common than I thought in these newer models. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few months just to be sure everything stays working properly. If anyone else runs into similar problems with their iX, definitely get that error code checked out, seems like a pretty clear indicator of what's going on!
