BMW iX1 Electrical Issues? Common Problems & Solutions

Hey there! I've got some experience with EVs and went through something really similar with my 2021 BMW i4 (also had a brief stint with an iX3). Had pretty much the same symptoms, weak starts, funky electrical behavior, the works. Turned out my 12V auxiliary battery was running on fumes. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed it right away. The main battery was fine, but the auxiliary one needed replacement. Set me back about 290 Euro, but it fixed everything. Quick question though, are you noticing any specific patterns when these issues occur? Like, does it happen more after the car sits for a few days? Also, what's your typical charging routine? These details would help figure out if you're dealing with the same thing I did. Keep us posted on what you find out!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX1 is at 192158 KM and just had its service last month, but these issues started popping up recently. Actually, I've noticed it happens more when I leave the car parked for 3-4 days without using it. The error messages typically show up right after I start the car, and sometimes the infotainment system takes longer than usual to boot up. Your 12V battery situation sounds really similar to what I'm experiencing. I'll probably take it to get checked out this week. Do you remember if your warranty covered the battery replacement?

Hey again! Yeah, that parking pattern you described is exactly what happened with my i4 too, it's like a carbon copy of my experience. When you mentioned the delayed infotainment startup, I was nodding my head because that's precisely what mine did before I got it fixed. About the warranty, in my case, it wasn't covered because my car was just past the basic warranty period. But since your iX1 is a 2023 model, you should definitely be under warranty still. I'd suggest taking photos of the error messages and documenting when they occur, that really helped speed up my diagnosis process at the workshop. Just a heads up from my experience, if it is the auxiliary battery, it's a pretty quick fix. My workshop had it sorted in about an hour. Make sure they check the charging system too though, that's something I wish I'd asked them to do the first time around. Had to go back when I noticed the new battery wasn't charging properly. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out. I'm curious if it's the same issue I had. These modern EVs are great but they can be a bit finicky with their electrical systems sometimes!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's super helpful about documenting the error messages, I've already started taking photos of them. Really good to know about checking the charging system too, I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. You're right about my car being under warranty still, so fingers crossed it'll be covered. I've actually booked it in for tomorrow morning at my local dealer, managed to get an early slot. Will make sure to get them to do a thorough check of both the battery and charging system like you suggested. The symptoms matching yours so closely definitely makes me feel better about getting to the bottom of this. I'll update the thread once I know what's going on. Thanks again for all your help, really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
