BMW iX1 Parking Brake Failure Triggers Multiple System Issues

Help needed: BMW iX1 2022 Electric, Multiple system failures linked to parking brake Having issues with my iX1 where the electronic parking brake stopped working. Now the hill assist is dead, various driver assistance systems are offline, and there's a warning light on the dash. Error codes present. Has anyone dealt with this before? What did your mechanic find and how was it resolved? Really keen to hear about repair experiences before taking it to the shop. Thanks in advance for your input.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW iX3 (my first EV after owning an i3). I have some experience working on cars, but electrical issues are trickier. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I faced. My electronic parking brake failed, and it triggered a chain reaction of warnings. Turned out the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective and needed replacement. I took it to a certified workshop and the total repair came to 505 Euro. They had to diagnose the system, replace the faulty motor, and recalibrate everything. Took about a day to fix. Could you share what error codes you're getting? Also, have you noticed any unusual noises when engaging the parking brake before it failed? This info would help confirm if we're dealing with the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's showing similar symptoms with 76873 KM on the clock and had its last service just two months ago. The error codes I'm getting are P17F45 and P17B22. I did notice a slight grinding noise when engaging the parking brake for about a week before it completely failed. It wasn't very loud at first, but definitely noticeable. Pretty concerned about this since it's affecting multiple systems. Glad to hear yours was fixable with just a motor replacement. Did they mention anything about warranty coverage for your repair? I'm hoping mine might be covered since the car's still relatively new.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your iX1. Those error codes and the grinding noise you mentioned, that's exactly what happened with mine too! It's like déjà vu reading your description. I actually forgot to mention in my first reply that I heard that same grinding noise for about 10 days before everything went south. My mechanic later told me that's a classic warning sign of the motor starting to fail. Wish I'd gotten it checked out when I first heard it, might have prevented some of the other systems from being affected. About the warranty, you're in luck! Mine was covered under the extended warranty since it was considered a manufacturing defect. With your iX1 being a 2022 model and only having 76873 KM, you should definitely be covered under the standard warranty. Make sure to mention those error codes when you take it in, they're the same ones I had, and they'll help speed up the diagnosis. Quick tip: when you take it to the shop, ask them to check the wiring harness too. In my case, they found some minor wear on the connectors while they were in there, and fixed that under the same warranty claim. Might save you from future headaches. Let me know how it goes with the repair, I'm curious if your fix will be as straightforward as mine was!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've really put my mind at ease about this whole situation. I'll definitely get it checked out this week and make sure they look at those connectors too, great tip about that! It's so helpful hearing from someone who's been through the exact same thing. Those identical error codes and the same grinding noise can't be a coincidence. I'm really relieved to hear it should be covered under warranty. Was getting worried about a massive repair bill! I've already called the service center and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Mentioned the error codes and symptoms you described, and they seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. They even said they should have it fixed within a day, just like yours. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. It's made this whole situation much less stressful. I'll probably update this thread once it's all sorted, just in case someone else runs into the same issue.
