BMW iX2 Headlight Range Control Issue Needs Expert Fix

"Hi everyone! Having trouble with my 2024 BMW iX2 (electric, 152,689 km). The headlights are acting up, my low beams seem misaligned and there's a warning light on the dash. Already got the error code read but had a terrible experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar headlight range control issues on their iX2? Would appreciate recommendations on reliable mechanics who actually know their way around these electric BMWs. Thanks!"

I had the exact same issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last month. The servomotor that controls the auto-leveling system in the headlight assembly was failing. Got the same warning light and misaligned beam pattern you're describing. The repair wasn't too complex, but it needed a specialized diagnostic tool to reprogram the new servomotor. My mechanic had to replace the entire headlight control module since the servomotor is integrated into it. Not a critical safety issue if fixed promptly, but definitely needs attention to prevent any night driving hazards. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with BMW electric vehicles, the headlight systems are quite different from traditional ones. The repair took about 3 hours at my garage. If you get it done, ask them to check both sides. Sometimes when one servomotor fails, the other isn't far behind.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was the servomotor causing the trouble. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks with the headlights? I'm thinking of getting mine sorted next week and just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Hey there! Yeah, just got mine fixed last week actually, the damage was 1040 € for replacing that faulty servomotor. The headlights have been working perfectly since then, absolutely no issues at all. The warning light disappeared right after the repair and the beam alignment is spot on now. I'm actually really glad I got it sorted when I did. The mechanic mentioned that leaving it unfixed could've led to bigger problems down the line. Plus, driving at night is so much better now, didn't realize how much those misaligned beams were affecting visibility until they were properly fixed. Quick tip though, make sure they test both headlights after the repair. My mechanic did a full system check and recalibration as part of the service, which I think really helped ensure everything was working properly. Let me know how yours goes when you get it fixed!

Thanks so much! I bit the bullet and took my car in yesterday. You were totally right, it was the servomotor! Ended up costing me about 1100 € with parts and labor, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The mechanic I found was great, really knew his stuff about electric BMWs. Funny thing is, while they were fixing it, they spotted that the other headlight was starting to show early signs of the same problem. Decided to get both done at once to avoid another trip back. Smart call on that heads-up about checking both sides! The difference in night driving is incredible. Didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I drove home last night with properly aligned beams. No more warning lights on the dash either, such a relief! Really appreciate everyone's help on this. Sometimes taking a chance on a new mechanic works out better than expected!
