BMW iX2 Multiple Sensor Systems Fail, Common Issue?

Thanks for sharing your experience! You mentioned an iX3, but mine's a newer iX2 with only 35652 KM on it. I actually noticed these issues popping up gradually over the last couple of weeks. At first, it was just the auto headlights acting weird, then everything else followed. I took a closer look at the sensor area you mentioned, and guess what? I can actually see some small bubbles forming! That's exactly like what you described. Really appreciate you bringing this up, I'll probably need to get it checked at my next service. The car's still under warranty, so hopefully, this should be a straightforward fix. Would you mind sharing how long the repair took in your case? I'm trying to plan ahead for this.

Hey again! Happy to help with more details about my experience. Yeah, those bubbles are a dead giveaway, exactly what happened with my iX3. The repair itself was actually pretty quick, only took about an hour and a half total. Most of that time was spent on the recalibration after they replaced the gel pad. Since you mentioned your iX2 is still under warranty, you're definitely in a better position than I was. My warranty had just expired when this happened (typical timing, right?). The gradual failure pattern is spot on with what I experienced too, started with the headlights being finicky, then everything else went downhill. One thing I'd suggest though, don't wait too long to get it fixed. In my case, waiting made the bubbles worse and started affecting more systems. Initially, I thought I could just live with manually controlling the lights and wipers, but it really isn't worth the hassle. Just keep in mind that after the repair, it might take a short drive cycle for all systems to fully reset to normal operation. Mine took about 15-20 minutes of driving before everything was back to working perfectly.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! Really good to know about the repair time, an hour and a half isn't bad at all. I'll definitely take your advice and get it sorted sooner rather than later. Don't want to risk more systems going haywire! I've actually just booked it in for next week. Getting it done under warranty is a huge relief, especially after hearing about your post-warranty timing (that's just typical, isn't it?). I appreciate the heads-up about the drive cycle too, at least now I won't panic if everything isn't perfect right away. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. It's made me feel a lot more confident about what I'm dealing with. Seems like a pretty straightforward fix, all things considered. Will update the forum once it's all sorted, might help someone else down the line!

Hey there! I've got some experience with EVs and went through something very similar with my 2022 BMW iX3 last year (my second BMW after the i4). Those symptoms definitely sound like what I faced, multiple systems acting up at once. In my case, it was indeed the gel pad under the windshield sensor deteriorating, causing bubbles that messed with all those automatic functions. Took it to my workshop and they confirmed the sensor wasn't getting proper readings because of those bubbles. They replaced the gel pad and recalibrated the sensor system, cost me 62 Euro and fixed everything. All those automatic features started working perfectly again. Before I can suggest anything more specific, could you tell me if you're seeing any visible bubbles or cloudiness in that sensor area at the top of your windshield? Also, did these issues start gradually or all at once? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same problem.
