BMW iX2 Navigation System Failure, Antenna Issues?

Fault stored

|

No GPS connection

Hi all! My 2024 BMW iX2 is acting up with navigation issues. The GPS seems completely dead, routes won't calculate properly, and there's no signal at all. Getting error messages too. I suspect it might be the GPS antenna, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar navigation problems on their iX2? What did the workshop diagnose and how was it fixed? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks in advance

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar GPS issue with my 2022 BMW iX3 last year (I also own an iX1). Have some experience with EVs, but I'm not a total expert. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with, no signal, route calculation errors, the whole thing. Took it to my workshop and, yep, it was a faulty GPS antenna. Cost me about 200 Euro to fix, but it's been working perfectly since then. Quick question, are you getting any specific error codes on your display? Also, did this start happening suddenly or gradually? This info would help confirm if it's the same issue I had. Just to be sure you're getting the right advice, would you mind sharing which GPS system version you're running? These details would help me give you more specific guidance based on my experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX2 just hit 37128 KM, and I've been keeping up with all scheduled services. The issue actually started gradually over the past week, first with occasional signal drops, then completely died yesterday. I'm getting error code "GPS_SYS_404" on the display, and I'm running the latest navigation software version 2024.1. I was hoping it might just be a software glitch, but after reading about your similar experience, I'm starting to think it could indeed be the antenna. Did your repair include a full diagnostic check? I'm wondering if I should just book it directly with BMW rather than trying any troubleshooting myself.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your iX2, reading this is like déjà vu from my own experience! Yeah, that error code "GPS_SYS_404" is exactly what I saw on my iX3 before getting it fixed. When my GPS started acting up, it also began with those unusual signal drops before completely giving up. I tried all sorts of basic fixes first, you know, the usual restart system, clear cache kind of stuff, but nothing worked. And just like you, I was running the latest nav software at the time. The workshop did do a full diagnostic check when I brought it in (actually took about 2 hours), and it confirmed what I suspected, the antenna was shot. The funny thing is, they found that moisture had gotten into the antenna housing, which apparently isn't super uncommon. Since you're having such similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend going straight to BMW. I initially wasted time trying to troubleshoot it myself, which honestly wasn't worth the hassle. The dealer has the right diagnostic tools and can probably sort it pretty quickly. Just make sure they check the antenna housing seal too, that's something I wish I'd known to ask about. Let me know how it goes, curious to hear if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for the detailed response! After reading about your experience, I've already booked an appointment with BMW for next week. You're absolutely right about not wasting time with DIY troubleshooting, I briefly considered it but decided against it after reading your reply. It's really helpful to know about the moisture issue in the antenna housing too. I'll definitely mention this to the technicians when I take it in. The symptoms are just too similar to yours to ignore, especially with the same error code and the gradual progression of the problem. By the way, what you mentioned about it taking 2 hours for diagnostics helps me plan better for the appointment. At least I know what to expect time-wise. I'll definitely update this thread once I get it checked out, might help others who run into the same issue with their iX2s. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Really appreciate the detailed insights!
