Thanks for sharing your experience! For my driver's seat, it started acting up suddenly last week. Got error code E-5473 on the display. At 184308 KM, this is my first real issue with the heating system. Your repair costs sound about right, good to know what I might be looking at. Did your workshop mention how long the repair took? Just trying to figure out if I can get it done during my lunch break or if I need to plan for a full day without the car. The weird thing is, mine sometimes works for a few seconds before cutting out, which makes me think it might be the same heating mat issue you had. Really hoping it's covered under warranty since the car's so new.

Hey again! Definitely sounds like the same heating mat issue I had. Since you mentioned your iX2 is so new, you should absolutely get this covered under warranty, I had to pay because mine was out of warranty already. For the repair time, mine took about 2.5 hours in total. However, they had ordered the part in advance because they were pretty sure about the diagnosis. I wouldn't count on getting it done during lunch break though. Even with the part on hand, they need to partially disassemble the seat to access the heating element. That error code and the behavior you're describing (working briefly before cutting out) is exactly what happened with mine. The technician explained that the heating mat develops a break in the internal wiring, which causes the system to shut down as a safety measure. Makes total sense when you think about it. Quick tip from my experience, while you're waiting for the repair, don't keep trying to turn it on repeatedly. I did that with mine and apparently it can stress other components of the system. Just book it in as soon as you can and let them handle it properly under warranty.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Really helpful to hear your experience and get that tip about not repeatedly trying the switch, I'll definitely stop doing that now. I just called my dealer and they said they can take it in next week. You're right about the warranty, they confirmed it should be fully covered since the car's only a few months old. They also mentioned the 2.5-hour repair time, just like you said. Good call about ordering the part in advance. I asked them about this and they're checking their inventory. They'll let me know tomorrow if they need to order it, so I can plan accordingly. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this info. It's made me feel much better about the whole situation, knowing it's a known issue with a straightforward fix. I'll probably drop the car off first thing in the morning rather than trying to squeeze it into a lunch break.

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and had a very similar issue with my 2022 BMW iX1 (also own an iX3). The symptoms you're describing are exactly what I faced, the seat heating would either not work or cut out really quickly. Took it to my workshop and they diagnosed a defective heating mat in the seat. The entire repair, including parts and labor, cost me 390 Euro. The technician had to replace the heating element completely, but it's been working perfectly since then. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Which seat is affected (driver/passenger)? Are you getting any specific error messages? Has the issue been gradual or did it start suddenly? These details would help me share more relevant info from my experience.
