BMW iX3 Multiple Warning Lights and Heavy Steering Issue

Hey there! My 2022 BMW iX3 (electric) is giving me a headache. Got multiple warning lights popping up on the dash (ESP, ABS, brake) and the steering feels really heavy. The wheel also vibrates quite a bit. I think it might be the steering angle sensor, but I'm hesitant about taking it to a mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Car's at 165,246 km. Thanks in advance for any insights!

I faced nearly identical issues with my 2019 BMW i3s about 6 months ago. The steering angle sensor was indeed faulty, causing those exact warning lights and symptoms. The heavy steering and vibration are classic signs of this problem. When I took it in, the diagnostic confirmed my suspicion. The fix involved recalibrating the sensor and replacing a faulty wiring harness that was causing intermittent signal issues. It wasn't a major mechanical problem, but it definitely needed professional attention since it affects critical safety systems. The repair took about half a day. While not the most serious issue, it's not something you want to leave unaddressed since it affects your ABS and stability control systems. The steering angle sensor is a crucial component for these safety features to work properly. Given your car's symptoms match my experience exactly, I'd recommend getting it checked at a certified BMW service center despite your previous bad experience. These electrical issues really need proper diagnostic equipment to fix correctly.

Hey Dave! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This really puts my mind at ease since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind sharing what the final bill came to? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since the repair?

Glad I could help ease your mind! Actually, I just got my car back from the shop last week for this exact issue. The total bill came to 195 € for fixing the coding of the steering angle sensor. They didn't need to replace any parts in my case, just had to recalibrate and recode the sensor, much cheaper than I initially feared! Since the fix, my car's been running perfectly smooth. No more warning lights, the steering's back to normal, and that annoying vibration is completely gone. Haven't had a single issue pop up since then, and honestly, the car feels like new again. Those safety systems are all working properly now too. Looking back, I was probably too worried about the whole thing. It turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix. If you're still hesitating about getting it checked, don't, it's definitely worth getting it sorted properly. Your symptoms sound identical to what I dealt with, and it's such a relief to have it fixed.

Hey Dave! What a relief! I actually took your advice and got it sorted at a certified shop yesterday. You were spot on, it was the steering angle sensor acting up. The final bill came to around 250 € since they had to replace a small connector as well, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The difference is like night and day! No more warning lights, steering's buttery smooth again, and that scary vibration is history. Feels just like when I first got the car. Really glad I didn't let my previous bad experience stop me from getting this fixed properly. Thanks again for pushing me in the right direction. Sometimes you just need someone who's been through the same thing to give you that extra confidence, you know?
