BMW M2 Active Air Flap Issues Causing Engine Trouble

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got the N55 3.0L engine in my M2, with 110475 KM on the clock since my last service. I'm getting error code P2AMD, which seems to point to the air flap control module. Haven't noticed any weird noises at startup, but the engine temperature definitely spikes after about 15-20 minutes of driving. Glad to hear your issue was resolved, makes me feel a bit better about the potential repair costs. I've been using a basic OBD scanner to read the codes, but might need something more specific for BMW systems to get more detailed diagnostics. Think I'll bite the bullet and get it checked out at the workshop before it gets worse.

Hey again! Thanks for coming back with those details about your M2. Yeah, that P2AMD code on your N55 is exactly what I dealt with on my M3, it's pretty much the smoking gun for air flap issues. Speaking from my experience, when I first noticed the temperature spikes on my car, I tried to tough it out for a couple of weeks (not my smartest move, I'll admit). The basic OBD reader I was using didn't tell me much either. Eventually grabbed a BMW-specific scanner from a, totally different story, way more detailed info. Since you're seeing the same symptoms I had, especially that temperature spike after 15-20 minutes, I'm even more convinced it's the same problem. When I finally got mine fixed, they had to replace the entire flap control module. The mechanic showed me the old one, the actuator was completely stuck. One tip though, when you take it in, make sure they check the wiring harness too. Found out later that's sometimes the culprit rather than the module itself. Could save you some cash if that's the case. Still got any warning lights showing up? Mine would sometimes clear temporarily only to come back after a cold start.

Thanks that's super helpful info! I checked again this morning, and yep, warning lights are still there, doing exactly what you described. They disappeared briefly yesterday after I cleared them, but came right back after my morning start-up. Your tip about the wiring harness is gold, I'll definitely mention that to the workshop when I take it in. Been looking at workshop prices, and if it's just the wiring that needs sorting, that could save me a decent chunk of change. I've already booked it in for next week, figured better safe than sorry, especially after hearing about your experience with waiting. Really don't want to risk any bigger issues developing. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and advice, it's made me feel a lot more confident about dealing with this whole situation. I'll probably invest in a proper BMW scanner too, seems like it could come in handy for future issues.
