BMW M2 Audio Nightmare: Speakers Crackling and Dying

Hey everyone! Recently had some trouble with my 2015 BMW M2's audio system. The subwoofer keeps cutting out, and sometimes there's no sound at all from any speakers. When the audio does work, I hear crackling noises. My last experience with a mechanic wasn't great, so I'm looking for advice before taking it in again. Anyone else dealt with similar audio issues in their M2? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations for fixing this. Car details: 2015 BMW M2, Petrol engine, 37,274 km Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW M4. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, intermittent subwoofer cutting out and crackling sounds. Initially thought it was just the bass speaker, but turned out the amplifier was failing. Took it to my mechanic last month and they found corrosion on the amp's connections, plus a blown fuse that was causing the complete audio shutdowns. Not a super serious issue, but definitely needed proper diagnosis. They had to replace the amplifier unit and rewire some connections. The sound quality is perfect now. Since our cars share similar audio system architecture, I'd recommend getting the amp checked first before assuming it's the speakers. The crackling is usually a dead giveaway for amp problems in these models. Hope this helps with your decision!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the amp being the culprit. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repairs? And has everything been working smoothly since then? I'm trying to get a ballpark figure before I head to the shop, and it'd be great to know if it's a lasting fix or if I should expect any other issues popping up.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you, my situation turned out different than expected. While I initially thought it was the amp like in my previous reply, when I took it to the mechanic last week, they found it was actually just a faulty bass speaker causing all the trouble. Got it fixed for 280€ and the audio system has been working perfectly since then. Crystal clear sound, no more crackling, and the subwoofer is pumping out bass like new again. I know I mentioned amp issues in my M4 before, but it's funny how these things can have similar symptoms but different causes. Really glad it wasn't the amp in my case as that would've been a more expensive repair. Since getting it fixed, I've been enjoying my music with zero issues, it's like having a new sound system! Just remember every car can be different, so while my fix was straightforward, definitely get your mechanic to do a proper diagnosis. Worth every penny to have proper sound while cruising!

Thanks for the follow-up! Just wanted to share that I finally took my car to the mechanic yesterday. Turns out it was actually a combination of issues, had some loose wiring connections and a damaged speaker cone. The total repair came to about 350€, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic was great this time, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the damaged parts. Such a relief to have it sorted! Been testing it out all morning and the sound is crystal clear now. No more crackling or cutting out, and the bass is hitting just right. Funny how we both had similar symptoms but different underlying issues. Really appreciate everyone's input, helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out. Lesson learned: sometimes it's worth trying a different mechanic when you're not happy with the first one. Time to enjoy some proper tunes on my drive! Thanks again for all the help.
