BMW M2 jerking issues: Reduced power problem solved?

Thanks for sharing your experience! Actually, my M2 is completely stock, no performance mods or tunes at all. Just did the latest service at 130111 KM and everything was fine until last week. Getting fault code P0300 on the scanner. Been really babying the car since the symptoms started, but the jerking is making me nervous. Really hoping it's not as serious as what you went through with your M4!

Oh that definitely changes things then! If you're getting a P0300 code on a stock M2, we're likely looking at a different issue than what I dealt with. That code usually points to unusual/multiple cylinder misfires, which makes sense with the jerking you're experiencing. In my M4's history, I've actually faced this exact issue about two years before the tuning drama I mentioned earlier. Turned out it was failing ignition coils, pretty common issue on these engines actually. Started with similar symptoms, jerking, drop in power, and that dreaded P0300 code. Got it fixed by replacing all the coils and spark plugs as a set, figured might as well do them all since they were probably wearing out at similar rates. Cost was around 600 including parts and labor, but honestly, it was worth every penny. Car ran smooth as butter afterward. Not saying this is definitely your issue, but given the mileage you mentioned and the symptoms matching up so perfectly, I'd bet good money on it being either coils or plugs. Would definitely get those checked first before looking into more complex (and expensive) possibilities. Want me to share what specific brands I used for the replacement parts? They've held up great in my M4 so far.

Thanks so much for this detailed insight! That's actually a huge relief to hear it might just be the coils and plugs, I was getting really worried it could be something way more serious. And yeah, I'd definitely appreciate knowing which brands you used for your M4. The mileage on my car matches up with what you're describing, so it makes total sense these parts might be due for replacement. I'll get it checked out by my mechanic this week and have them focus on the ignition coils and spark plugs first. Really hoping it's just that! It'll be much better than dealing with a major engine issue. You've been super helpful, thanks for taking the time to share your experience, especially since you've dealt with this exact problem before. I'll let you know how it turns out once I get it looked at!

Hey there! Got some experience with BMWs as I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW M4. I have moderate car experience, mostly basic maintenance and troubleshooting. Last year, my car started acting exactly like yours, jerking and running in limp mode. Turned out I had gotten a chip tune from a sketchy tuning shop. After a lot of headache and a dead engine scare, my trusted mechanic had to reset the ECU and reinstall the factory settings. Cost me around 180 to fix it properly. Before I share more specific details, could you tell me if you've had any recent modifications or tuning done to your M2? Also, what's the exact fault code you're getting? This would help narrow down if we're dealing with the same problem. Word of advice, if it is chip tuning related, stick with reputable tuners. I learned that lesson the hard way with my M4!
