BMW M2 Oil Pressure Light: Expert Tips & Solutions Needed

Hey everyone! Need some advice about my 2015 BMW M2 (102,243 km). Recently noticed the oil pressure warning light coming on along with a warning indicator in the speedometer cluster. I'm suspecting dirty engine oil might be the culprit. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar warning lights in their M2? What was the actual problem and did you find a reliable mechanic who really knows these engines? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW M4 last year. The oil pressure warning is definitely something you shouldn't ignore. When it happened to me, it turned out I was overdue for maintenance by about 8,000 km, and the oil had degraded significantly. The repair involved a complete oil system flush, new oil filter, and fresh oil. The technician also found some oil pump wear, which was contributing to the pressure problems. It wasn't a catastrophic issue, but it definitely needed immediate attention to prevent serious engine damage. My recommendation is to get it checked right away. Those N55 engines in the M2s are pretty robust, but they need proper maintenance. The warning lights are usually spot-on when it comes to oil pressure issues. I'd suggest asking specifically for a master technician with BMW certification. They'll know exactly what to look for with these performance engines. Best of luck with the repair.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. My car's fixed now, and it was pretty much the same situation as yours, oil degradation and pump wear. You really helped me make the decision to get it checked right away. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Glad to hear you got it sorted out! Yeah, in my case, it was about 165€ for the maintenance work to fix the contaminated oil issue. The engine's been running like a dream since then, no warning lights or any other problems cropping up. Actually, I can really tell the difference in how the engine performs now; it's much smoother and feels more responsive than when I was having those oil pressure problems. The funny thing is, I was also pretty nervous about potential costs when I first saw those warning lights, but getting it fixed right away definitely saved me from bigger problems down the road. These M cars really let you know when something's not quite right, which is actually a good thing when you think about it. Just keep an eye on those maintenance intervals going forward and you should be fine. I've got mine logged in my phone now so I don't forget again! Good to hear your M2's back in shape.

Thanks for the follow-up! Yeah, my repair bill came to around 200€, slightly more than yours since they had to do some extra work on the pump. I took it to this mechanic who really knew his stuff, ended up being a former BMW service tech. He walked me through everything they were doing and actually showed me the old oil, it was pretty shocking how degraded it had gotten! The car's running beautifully now. That sluggish feeling I didn't even realize was there is completely gone, and the engine sounds much healthier. You're absolutely right about keeping up with maintenance, I've already set reminders for the next service interval. These M engines really are sensitive to proper care, but they're worth it when they're running right. Really appreciate your help with this. Having someone share a similar experience made me feel a lot better about getting it sorted quickly. Guess I'll be hanging around this forum more often now, seems like a great place to get solid advice!
