BMW M2 Power Loss & Rough Running: Fix Costs Exposed

Hi there! Looking for advice about my 2018 BMW M2 (36k km). The engine's been acting up lately and I'm worried about getting ripped off at the shop again. Car is losing power, jerking during acceleration, and running really rough. Check engine light is on and it failed emissions. Pretty sure it's a fuel mixture issue. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their M2? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would appreciate some insights before heading to a mechanic. Thanks!

Hey! I had very similar issues with my 2015 BMW M4. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, power loss, jerky acceleration, and rough idle. After scanning, it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. Got it fixed at a shop and they had to replace two injectors that were completely clogged. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention because bad injectors can damage other engine components if left unfixed. The repair wasn't simple, they had to remove quite a bit to access the injectors, clean the entire fuel system, and reprogram the ECU. The car runs perfectly now, but I learned it's crucial to use high-quality fuel and keep up with fuel system maintenance to prevent injector issues. If your symptoms match mine, don't wait too long to get it checked out. These problems typically don't fix themselves and can get worse. Take the car to a reputable shop that specializes in BMW, they'll have the right diagnostic tools and experience with these specific engines.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since the symptoms sound exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm definitely going to get it checked soon. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on the cost since you asked. I paid 515 € for the complete repair job, which included replacing the faulty injector and fixing the mixture preparation error. Honestly, it was worth every penny because the car's been running like a dream since then, no more jerking, power loss, or any of those annoying symptoms. Haven't had a single issue since the fix, which was about 6 months ago now. The engine's super smooth, and the performance is back to what it should be. My mechanic did a thorough job cleaning the fuel system too, which probably helped prevent any related problems from popping up. Just make sure you get it done soon, waiting around with injector issues isn't great for the engine. And yeah, like I mentioned before, stick with a shop that really knows BMWs. Makes a huge difference in getting it fixed right the first time. Let me know how it goes when you get yours checked out. Always interested to hear if others have similar experiences with these cars.

Thanks for all those details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and thought I'd update you. You were spot on about the injectors! Had mine checked and two were clogged, just like your case. The final bill came to around 600 for everything, parts, labor, and system cleaning. Bit more than what you paid, but still feels worth it considering how the car's running now. The difference is like night and day. No more jerking, and the power delivery is smooth again. The mechanic also showed me the dirty injectors, pretty eye-opening to see how gunked up they were. Definitely learned my lesson about using quality fuel and keeping up with maintenance. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. It helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted before it got worse. Car's purring like a kitten now!
