BMW M2 Washer Nozzle Heating System Malfunction Fix

Hey car enthusiasts, need some advice about my 2017 BMW M2 (32k km). The windshield washer system is acting weird, nozzles are either freezing up in cold weather or getting too hot. Got an error code stored, and my last mechanic visit wasn't great. Pretty sure it's the washer heater, but wanted to hear if anyone else has dealt with this issue? What was your repair experience and cost? Really want to avoid another frustrating mechanic visit. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW M4. The washer nozzle heating system started acting up last winter, throwing the same error codes. During my garage visit, they found that the cable connection to the heating element was partially corroded and had a loose contact. The mechanic showed me that the wire harness going to the nozzle heaters had some wear, causing intermittent connectivity. It wasn't just a simple plug-and-play fix, they had to replace the entire wiring harness for the washer system. This wasn't a major mechanical issue, but it could lead to more problems if left unchecked. The system would've eventually failed completely, leaving you without proper washer function in cold weather. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked by a BMW specialist who knows these systems well. Mine took about half a day to fix, and it's been working perfectly since then.

Thanks for sharing your experience! This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's good to know the root cause might be the wiring harness, makes total sense with those symptoms. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks with the washer system?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I actually got the issue fixed last week! You'll be glad to hear it wasn't as expensive as my initial repair. The mechanic found a faulty cable connection to the heater unit, pretty similar to what I experienced with my M4, but this time it was a simpler fix. Only cost me 95 € to repair, they just needed to fix the cable and plug connection that was causing the whole problem. Much better than having to replace the entire harness like I did with my previous car! Everything's working perfectly now, no more freezing nozzles or overheating issues. The washer system's performing exactly as it should. Actually tested it yesterday when it was pretty cold out, and the nozzles stayed nice and clear. Just thought I'd let you know since you asked about the costs. It's definitely worth getting it sorted, these heating issues can be a real pain if left unchecked, but the fix might not be as complex as you think. Hope this helps with your decision!

I really appreciate you following up! Finally got mine fixed too, and what a relief it was! Took it to a different mechanic this time, one who actually specializes in BMW systems. They found pretty much the same issue as yours, a wonky connection that was messing with the heater unit. The repair process was super smooth. Got there early morning, and they had me out by lunch. The mechanic was really thorough in explaining what went wrong and showed me the faulty parts. Ended up being way less dramatic than I'd feared. Best part? The whole thing only cost me about half of what I'd budgeted for. No more error codes, and the washer system's working like a charm now. Even tested it during a cold morning, and those nozzles are behaving perfectly. Thanks again for the advice, really helped me avoid what could've been another frustrating repair experience. Sometimes it's just about finding the right mechanic who knows what they're looking at!
