BMW M2 Wiper System Failure: Relay vs Control Module Issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a windshield wiper system failure in a 2022 BMW M2. The initial suspicion was a faulty wiper relay, but advice from others suggested checking the wiring connections first. The problem was ultimately traced to corrosion on a main wiper control module connector, which was resolved by cleaning and applying dielectric grease. This simple fix restored the wiper function and avoided unnecessary part replacements, highlighting the importance of checking basic connections in complex vehicle systems.

Thanks for sharing your M4 experience! I'm at 148682 KM and had my last service about two months ago. The washer fluid pump is actually working fine, which makes it even more puzzling. Haven't noticed any other electrical gremlins either. I'll definitely have them check the wiring connections first based on what you've shared. Seems like a more logical starting point than immediately replacing parts. Hopefully it's something similarly simple and inexpensive!

Hey again! Yeah, that's an interesting detail about your washer pump working fine. That was different from my M4 situation, when I had the loose connection, both the wipers and washer pump were acting up. But you know how these things go, similar symptoms can have different causes. Since you mentioned having service two months ago, maybe they disturbed something while working on the car? I learned from my experience that sometimes even routine maintenance can unknowingly create these issues. When they fixed my M4, the mechanic mentioned that these newer BMWs have pretty complex wiring setups for what seems like simple functions. Still think checking those connections is your best first step though. While my issue was the wiring harness, it could still be relay-related in your case since the symptoms are a bit different. Just make sure they do a thorough check of the whole system before replacing parts. Would be great if you could update us once you get it sorted. Always helpful to know these things for future reference. These modern BMWs are amazing machines but they sure can throw some curveballs at us sometimes!

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights! Just wanted to close the loop here, took my M2 to the workshop today and you were all spot on about checking the connections first. Turned out there was corrosion on one of the main wiper control module connectors, probably from some moisture that got trapped in there. They cleaned it up, applied some dielectric grease, and now everything's working perfectly again. Total cost was actually pretty reasonable, way less than what I was worried about spending on a new relay. The best part is they got it done in about an hour. Really glad I asked here first instead of just assuming the worst. Goes to show that even on these high-tech cars, sometimes it's the simple things that cause the biggest headaches. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction with this one!

Hey! I've got some experience with cars and had a similar issue on my 2020 BMW M4 last summer. Initially thought it was the relay too, but turned out to be a loose connection in the wiring harness that controls the wipers. My trusted workshop found that one of the plugs wasn't properly seated, causing intermittent failures. The fix was pretty straightforward, they cleaned the contacts and properly secured the connection. Total bill came to 95 Euro, which included diagnostics and the repair. What's your current mileage and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, does the washer fluid pump still work when you try to spray? These details would help to confirm if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
