BMW M3 Warning Lights: Oil Pressure Issue Help Needed

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW M3. The speedometer warning light and oil pressure warning lamp both came on. I suspect it might be contaminated engine oil, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What did your mechanic diagnose and how did they fix it? Would really appreciate hearing about repair experiences and costs involved. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, as I own a 2021 BMW M4. A few months back, I faced almost identical symptoms. I also have a 330i in the family, so I'm pretty familiar with these cars. Turned out my issue was simply due to missing the maintenance interval, I was about 3,000 miles overdue for an oil change. The warning lights were basically screaming "take care of me!" The workshop did a thorough oil change, replaced the filter, and reset the service indicator. Cost me around 165 Euro, and all warnings disappeared immediately. Before I jump to conclusions though, could you share: How many miles are on your M3? When was your last oil change? Are you noticing any unusual engine sounds? Has the oil level been dropping recently? These details would help me confirm if your issue matches what I experienced.

Thanks for your detailed response! My M3 has 30396 KM on the clock and actually just had its service done last month. Haven't noticed any weird engine sounds, but you mentioning the oil level got me thinking, I should probably check that. The weird thing is both warning lights came on simultaneously, which seems unusual. I'll definitely monitor the oil level over the next few days. If it's not that, might need to take it to the dealership while it's still under warranty. Really hoping it's something simple like yours was! Has anyone else experienced both warning lights coming on together?

Hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your M3. You know what? This actually sounds quite different from what I initially thought, especially since you've had such recent service. In my M4, when I had both lights come on together, it turned out to be a faulty oil pressure sensor, completely different from my initial oil change issue. Quick heads up, I actually ended up getting this fixed under warranty too. The fact that both lights came on simultaneously on your M3 really reminds me of my sensor situation. My dealership took about a day to diagnose and fix it. They explained that these sensors can sometimes give false readings even when everything else is perfectly fine. Since you mentioned your car is still under warranty, I'd definitely get it checked out. My repair would've cost around 400 Euro if it wasn't covered. Better safe than sorry, especially with these performance models. Keep us posted on what you find out, really curious if it turns out to be the same sensor issue I had. These BMWs can be a bit quirky with their warning systems sometimes!

Thanks so much for sharing your sensor experience! That makes way more sense than my initial contaminated oil theory. I've just booked it in at the dealership for tomorrow morning, definitely feeling less worried now knowing it might just be a sensor issue. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain your similar situation with the M4. Will update everyone once I get the diagnosis. Fingers crossed it's covered under warranty like yours was! These performance cars can definitely throw some curveballs at us with their warning systems. Good thing I asked here before getting too stressed about it. Thanks again for all the help!
