BMW M4 Multiple Electrical Issues, Clutch Switch Suspect

Hi all! Dealing with multiple issues on my 2014 BMW M4. The car shows an error code, struggles to start, gear display isn't working, starts without clutch pedal engagement, and cruise control stopped functioning. I suspect the clutch pedal switch might be faulty. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If so, what was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and time needed for the fix. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2012 BMW M3 last year. I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My symptoms were almost identical, error codes, starting issues, and the cruise control went dead. Turned out it was indeed a faulty clutch pedal sensor connection. The wiring harness had some corroded pins and a loose connection. My trusted mechanic found and fixed the issue in about an hour. Cost me 95 Euro, mainly labor plus the new connector. They cleaned the connection points and replaced the damaged wiring segment. Everything's been working perfectly since then. Could you share more details about your M4? Like the mileage and when these issues started? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? This info would help confirm if it's the same problem I dealt with.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 64226 KM and just had my service done recently. The issues started popping up rather suddenly this week. Haven't pulled the specific error codes yet, but your solution sounds promising, especially since our symptoms match so closely. I'll definitely have my mechanic check the clutch pedal sensor connections. That repair cost sounds way better than what I was mentally preparing for! Really appreciate the detailed insight, particularly good to hear it was a relatively quick fix for you.

Hey again! Yeah, hearing about your mileage and the sudden onset of issues, it's sounding even more similar to what I experienced with my M3. Just to add to my previous response, after my repair, I actually learned that these sensor issues are fairly common in our cars once they hit around 60-70K kilometers. The wiring setup in that area takes a fair bit of wear and tear from regular clutch use. One thing I forgot to mention earlier, before I got it fixed, I noticed the problems would sometimes seem worse on cold mornings. Did you notice anything like that? This was actually a pretty good indicator that it was an electrical connection issue rather than a mechanical problem with the clutch itself. Quick tip: When you take it to your mechanic, tell them to specifically check the pins at the back of the sensor connector. That's where mine had the corrosion. Could save them some diagnostic time. Let us know how it goes! Always good to share these experiences so others can benefit too.

Thanks for the follow-up info! Actually, yes, now that you mention it, I've definitely noticed it acting up more on cold starts. That's really helpful to know about the common mileage range for these issues too. I've got the car booked in for next week, and I'll definitely mention checking those connector pins specifically. Really grateful for all your insights, you've helped calm my nerves about this quite a bit! I'll post an update once I get it sorted out. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience in such detail!
