Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's currently at 187377 KM, and I also had similar warning lights pop up. Had my last service about 3 months ago, but they didn't touch the transmission. Your story gives me hope it might just be a fluid issue rather than something catastrophic. Going to get it checked out tomorrow, hopefully it's just low fluid like yours was and nothing more serious. Really don't want to deal with a major transmission repair right now!

Hey again! Good to hear back from you. Yeah, after reading your mileage and service history, it really does sound similar to what I dealt with on my M3. Just to follow up on my previous reply, after that fluid change I mentioned, I've put another 30,000 km on mine without any transmission drama. But here's something I learned the hard way, these BMW transmissions are pretty sensitive to fluid levels and quality. Even though my regular service didn't flag any issues, the transmission fluid was actually way overdue for a change. Since you mentioned your last service didn't include the transmission, I'd definitely push for them to check the fluid level and condition. My mechanic showed me how dark and burnt-smelling my old fluid was, it was pretty shocking actually! The grinding noise disappeared literally right after the fluid change. Quick tip though, make sure they use the correct spec fluid. My first mechanic tried to use a generic transmission fluid and it caused all sorts of issues. Had to get it flushed and refilled with the proper BMW spec fluid. Keep us posted on what your mechanic finds. I'm betting it'll be a similar fix to what I needed. These M cars are awesome but they sure can be picky about maintenance!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful about using the correct BMW spec fluid, I'll definitely mention that tomorrow at the shop. You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I was having nightmares about needing a complete transmission rebuild, but hearing that yours was fixed with just a fluid change is super encouraging. Good to know about your experience with the generic fluid too, will make sure to avoid that mistake. It's crazy how something as simple as fluid level and quality can cause such dramatic symptoms. Makes total sense though, especially in these high-performance cars. Will definitely be staying on top of the transmission maintenance from now on. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly the kind of real-world feedback I was hoping for when I posted. Fingers crossed I'll have a similar success story to share soon!

Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW M3 last summer. I have some experience working on cars, but transmissions aren't my strong suit. My car showed the same symptoms, warning lights, slipping, and that awful grinding noise during shifts. Took it to my trusted workshop, and it turned out the gearbox oil level was way too low, causing all these problems. The fix cost me around 365 Euro, including labor and fresh transmission fluid. Since then, I've had zero issues with my transmission. My mechanic explained that low fluid levels can cause serious damage if not addressed quickly. By the way, I had also considered getting an M4 before settling on the M3! Could you share your current mileage and whether you've had any recent transmission service done? This info would help determine if you might be dealing with the same issue.
