Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I'm actually planning to get mine checked next week based on what you're describing. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair cost you? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?

Hey there! Glad I could help out. Yeah, I got my M2 sorted at the mechanic and everything's been working perfectly since then. The final bill came to 95 €, mainly for fixing that dodgy cable connection and cleaning up the corroded bits in the wiper control module. Honestly, it was cheaper than I expected! The wipers are now working exactly like they should, no more unusual activations or complete failures. They've been spot-on for the past few weeks, and I haven't noticed any other electrical issues popping up. Pretty straightforward fix in the end. Just make sure your mechanic checks those connector pins properly, that was the real culprit in my case. The moisture damage had really done a number on them. But once that was sorted, it was all good. Hope you get yours fixed up just as easily!

Thanks a ton for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You were totally right about the connection issue. My problem turned out to be pretty similar, they found some nasty corrosion in the wiring harness too. The mechanic said it's a fairly common issue in these models. The repair was pretty quick, only took them about an hour and a half. Bill came to a bit more than yours though, they had to replace a few extra components. But honestly, I'm just relieved it's fixed. The wipers are working perfectly now, no more unusual activations or complete shutdowns. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me go in there knowing what to expect. Definitely feeling better about this mechanic than my last one. They showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. Guess sometimes you just need to find the right place!

Had the exact same problem on my 2016 BMW M2. The wipers would out of nowhere activate and then completely stop working. Turned out to be a faulty connection in the wiper control module. Took it to the garage last month, and they found corroded pins in the wiring harness connector that goes to the switch. The connection was pretty bad, moisture had gotten in there over time. They had to replace the entire wiper control module and rewire some connections. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely something you want to fix before it gets worse. The repair itself wasn't too complex, took them about 2 hours to diagnose and fix. I'd suggest getting it checked soon since unusual wiper activation can be dangerous while driving. Just make sure they properly test all the wiper speeds and functions after the repair. Mine's been working perfectly since the fix.
