Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful and makes me feel a bit better knowing it might just be a wiring issue. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working properly since they fixed it, or have you had any other mirror-related problems pop up?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update. After getting it fixed, I can confirm the repair cost me 95 € total, pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something more serious. The mechanic found it was indeed just a dodgy cable connection to the mirror heating component, just like I suspected. I've got great news, since getting it sorted out, everything's been working perfectly. The mirror heating kicks in exactly as it should, and I haven't had a single issue with it since. It's been several months now, and honestly, it's such a relief to have it working properly again. Definitely worth getting it checked out, these kinds of electrical niggles can seem scary at first, but they're usually pretty straightforward to fix once you find someone who knows what they're doing. Just make sure they have the right diagnostic equipment, and you should be good to go. Trust me, you'll feel much better once it's sorted!

Just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to share my experience! You were spot on, it turned out to be a simple wiring issue. The mechanic found a loose connection in the mirror assembly, plus a bit of corrosion on one of the connectors. They cleaned it up, secured everything properly, and now both the heating and auto-dimming are working perfectly again. The whole thing only took about an hour and cost me 110 bucks, not too bad considering I was worried it might be something major. The mechanic actually showed me what they did, which was pretty reassuring after some of my past experiences. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for your advice, it definitely helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out. Feels great to have everything working properly again!

I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW 3 Series last winter. The mirror heating and auto-dimming suddenly stopped working. After taking it to the garage, they found it was just a faulty wiring connection behind the mirror assembly. The cable had worked itself loose over time and was making poor contact. The fix wasn't too complex, they had to remove the mirror housing, reconnect and secure the wiring properly, and then test all functions. Not a major repair by any means, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to confirm the issue. The whole thing took about an hour at the shop. In my case, it wasn't a serious problem with the actual mirror components, just that disconnected wire. If you're getting an error code, it's probably something similar. These electrical gremlins are pretty common in modern cars with all their features. My advice would be to get it checked soon since you're losing safety features, especially that auto-dimming function.
