BMW Oil Pressure Warning: Critical Sensor Investigation

Hi everyone! Having some concerning issues with my 2018 BMW 6 (113k km, gasoline). Getting multiple warnings including an oil pressure light and can't get an oil level reading anymore. Error messages keep popping up in the speedometer. Pretty sure it's related to the oil level sensor, but my last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your diagnosis and repair cost? Would appreciate any recommendations for handling this issue. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2018 BMW 6 experiencing oil pressure warnings and an inability to read oil levels, likely due to a faulty oil level sensor. A similar issue was resolved by replacing a corroded sensor connector and wiring harness, highlighting the importance of addressing such problems promptly to avoid engine damage. The recommended solution is to consult a mechanic familiar with BMWs to properly diagnose and fix the sensor connections, potentially saving on repair costs if the issue is minor.

Hey there! Had the same problem with my 2015 BMW 5 Series last month. The oil pressure warnings and error messages turned out to be a faulty oil level sensor connector. The wiring harness had corroded, causing intermittent connection issues. Got it fixed at the garage, they had to replace both the sensor and the wiring harness. Not a super serious issue, but definitely something you want to address soon to prevent any potential engine damage. The repair was straightforward, took about 2 hours. Just make sure you find a mechanic who knows BMWs well. My last guy wasn't familiar with the model-specific quirks and missed diagnosing it the first time. You'll want someone who can properly test the sensor connections before just swapping parts. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Just curious, how much did the repair end up costing you? I've heard these sensor issues can vary quite a bit in price. Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Just wanted to update you, actually got super lucky with my repair! It turned out to be just a dodgy cable connection to the oil level sensor that needed fixing. Only cost me 95 € in the end, which was a massive relief as I was expecting much worse. Since getting it sorted at the garage, the car's been running like a dream. No more annoying warning lights or error messages popping up on the dash. The oil level readings are spot on now, and I can actually check the levels through the car's computer system again. Such a relief! Looking back, I was stressing way too much about it. Sometimes these BMW sensors can act up for the smallest reasons. My advice would be to get it checked out sooner rather than later, might save you some cash if it's just a simple fix like mine was. Hope you manage to get yours sorted without breaking the bank!

Thanks so much for the detailed response! Took your advice and finally got my car checked out yesterday. What a relief, turned out my issue was pretty similar to yours, but needed a complete sensor replacement. Bit pricier at around 250 bucks, but honestly, I'm just glad it wasn't something major with the engine. The funny part was when I got to the new mechanic I found. Guy took one look at the error messages and knew exactly what the problem was. He even showed me the old sensor, completely gunked up! Took about three hours total, but watching him work, you could tell he really knew his BMWs. Car's running perfectly now, no more scary warning lights or weird error messages. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. Really appreciate your help pointing me in the right direction. Next time I won't wait so long to get these things checked out!
