BMW Speedometer Error Kills Cruise Control Function

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2015 BMW 2 Series diesel (40.7k km). The speedometer's showing an error message and cruise control stopped working completely. Already checked and there's an error code stored in the system. Getting a bit nervous about taking it to a mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar cruise control/speedometer issues on their BMW? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks for any insights!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW 3 Series diesel last winter. The speedometer and cruise control malfunction turned out to be a faulty ABS sensor connector. The cable had some corrosion and wasn't making proper contact. When I took it to the garage, they diagnosed it within an hour. The mechanic showed me the damaged connector, and honestly, it wasn't as serious as I initially thought. They had to clean the connection points and replace the wiring harness for that section. My car had around 55k km when this happened. The fix was straightforward, and I was back on the road the same day. The cruise control and speedometer have been working perfectly since then. Based on your symptoms, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. I'd suggest getting it checked soon though, as driving without accurate speed readings isn't ideal. It's likely just a connection issue rather than a major component failure.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful and makes me feel better about my situation. Good to know it might just be a connection issue rather than something major. Would you mind telling me how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical gremlins pop up?

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. Yes, all has been perfect since the repair, the cruise control is working like a charm and I haven't had any other electrical issues pop up. As for the cost, it came to 95 € total, that covered diagnosing the problem and fixing the faulty cable connection. Pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something way more expensive! I remember being really worried like you when it first happened, but honestly, it turned out to be such a simple fix. The mechanic found it was just a matter of a dodgy connection that needed sorting out. They had it done in no time, and I've put thousands of kilometers on the car since then without any problems. Trust me, it's worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later. I was really relieved it wasn't anything major, and the peace of mind was worth every penny. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks for all the great advice! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my BMW. Finally got the courage to take it to a mechanic last week. Turns out it was also a sensor issue, specifically a speed sensor that needed replacing. The whole thing was way less dramatic than I'd feared! The mechanic was actually really good. They showed me the old sensor and explained everything clearly. Got it all sorted in about two hours for 120 €. Honestly, I feel a bit silly now for being so worried about it. The best part is both the speedometer and cruise control are working perfectly again. Such a relief! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it fixed instead of putting it off. Sometimes these car issues aren't nearly as bad as we imagine them to be, right? Thanks again for all your help!
