BMW X1 ASC & ABS Issues: Acceleration Problems Explained

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X1 just clocked 103360 KM, and had its last service about 3 months ago. The issues actually started quite suddenly, I was driving normally one day, and boom, all these warnings popped up at once. It's interesting that you mention the ASC relay, as I was wondering if it could be something similar or maybe a wheel speed sensor. Did your car also have any error codes stored when they diagnosed it? Just trying to compare notes here to see if I'm on the right track.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional details about your X1. Yes, my car definitely had error codes stored when they diagnosed it. The main ones were related to the ASC module communication and wheel speed sensor signals. Actually, this reminds me, before they found the faulty relay, they initially suspected a wheel speed sensor too, since the symptoms can be really similar. What's interesting is that my issues also came up suddenly, just like yours. I was driving home from work when all the warning lights lit up like a Christmas tree. The mileage on my 1 Series was pretty close to yours too, around 98000 KM when it happened. Since you mentioned wheel speed sensors, my mechanic explained that while they can cause similar symptoms, the sudden onset of multiple issues at once (ASC, ABS, and jerking) often points more toward a relay problem. In my case, the relay was actually corroded, which caused it to fail completely rather than gradually. Have you noticed if the problems get worse when the engine's warm? That was another tell-tale sign in my case. If you're experiencing something similar, I'd definitely recommend getting that relay checked first before diving into more expensive repairs. Let me know what you find out, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! Actually, yes, I've noticed the problems do seem worse when the engine's warm, just like you mentioned. That's really helpful to know about the relay versus sensor symptoms. I've scheduled an appointment with my mechanic for next week and I'll definitely have them check the relay first, especially since the symptoms appeared so suddenly like yours did. The similar mileage is quite interesting too, maybe these relays have a common lifespan. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's given me some hope that this might be a relatively straightforward and affordable fix rather than something major. I'll probably come back and update once I get it sorted out. Thanks again for helping me narrow down the possible causes!

Hi there! I had some experience with a similar issue on my 2011 BMW 1 Series (also had a 3 Series before). I'd say I have low experience with car repairs, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My car showed the same symptoms, ASC/ABS warnings and that annoying jerking during acceleration. After taking it to my trusted workshop, they diagnosed a faulty ASC relay. Got it replaced and everything went back to normal. The whole thing cost me around 90 Euro and took about an hour to fix. Could you share more details about your X1? Like the mileage and whether these issues started suddenly or gradually? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with exactly the same problem I had.
