Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that it was the switch assembly causing trouble on your X3. I had my X1 fixed last week, and like you said, it was indeed the brake light switch that needed replacement. Would you mind sharing how much you paid for your repair? Just curious to compare costs, and also wondering if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? Mine's been fine so far, but you never know with these things!

Hey again! Glad to hear you got your X1 sorted out! Actually, my situation turned out to be a bit embarrassing in the end. When I took it to the BMW shop, they discovered the switch wasn't broken at all, I'd somehow managed to not fully engage it. They just adjusted its position, and boom, problem solved! Talk about feeling silly... But hey, at least it didn't cost me anything! The best part is I haven't had any electrical issues since then. The warning light disappeared completely and hasn't come back. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be simple fixes rather than major problems. Your case sounds a bit different since you needed an actual replacement, but the main thing is both our cars are working properly now. Quick tip though, if anyone else runs into similar issues, it's worth having the mechanic check if it's just a positioning problem before replacing parts. Could save some cash! How's your X1 running now? Everything still working smoothly with the new switch?

Thanks for sharing that story! It made me chuckle, if only my fix had been that simple! My repair ended up costing around €300 including parts and labor. The mechanic I went to was actually pretty great, totally different from my last experience. He showed me the old switch and explained everything clearly. The funny thing is, I was super nervous about going to a mechanic after my last disaster, but this guy changed my mind completely. He even spotted and fixed a loose connection while he was in there, no extra charge. My brake lights are working perfectly now, and the warning message is gone for good. Let me tell you though, walking into that shop was nerve-wracking! I kept thinking about all the horror stories I'd heard about expensive BMW repairs. But sometimes you just have to take the plunge, right? Definitely learned my lesson about not putting off these warning lights too long. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped give me the push I needed to get it sorted!

Hey there! I can relate to this issue. I had a similar warning on my 2014 BMW X3 last year. Initially thought it was just a burned-out bulb, but it turned out the brake light switch had failed completely. It was causing intermittent brake light function and storing error codes. When I finally got it checked, they found corrosion in the switch housing, which is quite common in these models. The repair involved replacing the entire brake light switch assembly. While it wasn't a major mechanical issue affecting driving safety, it needed immediate attention to stay road legal. From my experience, hold off on DIY fixes for electrical issues on BMWs, their systems are pretty complex. Despite your reservations about mechanics, I'd suggest getting it checked by a certified BMW technician. The diagnostic system will pinpoint exactly what's wrong, and it might not even be the switch.
