BMW X1 Error Messages, Emergency Call System Glitch?
Summary of the thread
A 2017 BMW X1 is experiencing multiple error messages and a frozen navigation screen, suspected to be linked to the emergency call system. The issues began after driving through deep water puddles, suggesting potential water damage to the electronics. A similar case involved faulty connections in the emergency call system wiring due to moisture, which was resolved by repairing the connections. It is recommended to scan for error codes to identify the problem and address any moisture-related issues promptly to prevent further damage.

Thanks for the reply! My X1 just had its service last month and has done 70234 KM. After reading your message, I checked and noticed that the problems started right after I drove through some deep water puddles. Haven't scanned for codes yet, but the warning lights and messages keep coming on and off out of nowhere. The nav screen stays frozen though. No other electrical issues that I can spot, but it's definitely annoying. Think I should try getting it scanned first before heading to the workshop? I'm a bit worried about water damage to the electronics.

Hey again! Oh the water puddles detail definitely rings a bell, had almost the exact same thing happen with my 3 Series last year! Looking at your situation, I'd definitely recommend getting it scanned first, that's what saved me time and money when I had the issue. When I drove through deep water, it also messed with my car's electronics and caused similar symptoms. In my case, water had gotten into the emergency call system module connections, which was causing all those unusual errors and messages. Since you mentioned your nav screen is frozen, that's super similar to what happened to my BMW. The water exposure can cause these systems to go a bit crazy. Trust me, I learned this the hard way! Quick tip from my experience, don't wait too long to get it checked out. When I had water issues, leaving it just made things worse. Better to catch any potential corrosion early. My mechanic told me that these systems are pretty sensitive to moisture, and it's a common issue with our BMWs. Let me know what the scan shows, might be able to give you more specific advice based on what I went through with mine. Hopefully it's something simple like in my case!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll definitely get it scanned first thing tomorrow, better safe than sorry, especially with these electronics. Your water damage experience sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I can't believe I didn't make the connection between the puddles and these issues earlier! Just called my regular mechanic and he can check it tomorrow morning. Really hoping it's just some moisture in the connections like yours was and nothing too serious. Will probably avoid those deep puddles from now on, lesson learned! Thanks again for all the helpful advice. It's great to hear from someone who's been through something similar and got it sorted without too much hassle.

Hey there! Yeah, I've had some similar issues with my 2015 BMW 3 Series (I also considered the X3 at the time). I've got some experience working on cars, but nothing too fancy. My car showed pretty much the same symptoms, warning lights and error messages all over. Turned out it was just a faulty connection in the emergency call system wiring. Took it to my regular workshop and they sorted it out in about an hour. Cost me 95 Euro to fix, they had to repair some cable connections that had come loose over time. Before I can share more specific details that might help, could you share: Have you scanned for error codes? Are there any other electrical issues you've noticed? Did these problems start suddenly or gradually? Those details would help me give you more targeted advice based on my experience.
