BMW X1 Stalling & Rough Idle: Fuel Pump Failure?

Hey all, 2020 BMW X1 owner here with some engine troubles. Car won't start properly, stalls at idle, and runs really rough when it does start. Getting higher fuel consumption lately and the check engine light is on. My mechanic's diagnostic showed some error codes. I suspect it might be the fuel pump acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their X1? What was the actual problem and how did your workshop fix it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Summary of the thread

A 2020 BMW X1 owner is experiencing engine troubles, including stalling at idle, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and an illuminated check engine light. The diagnostic codes indicate a lean fuel mixture, leading to suspicion of a fuel pump issue. However, another owner suggested checking wiring connections, as disturbances during recent maintenance could cause similar symptoms. The owner plans to have the mechanic inspect the wiring before considering fuel pump replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine started acting up about two weeks ago, and it's been getting worse. Just had my service done at 125360 KM, and everything was fine before that. The error codes I got were P0171 and P0174, which point to a lean fuel mixture. Your wiring issue sounds interesting, definitely worth checking out. The symptoms do sound really similar. I'll have my mechanic take a closer look at the wiring connections before replacing any expensive parts. Did your car make any unusual noises before the problem got worse?

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Yes, now that you mention it, I've been hearing that exact sputtering sound at idle, though I haven't noticed any clicking noises yet. It's really helpful to know about your experience with the wiring, makes total sense that something could've been disturbed during my recent service. I just called my mechanic and mentioned what you said about the wiring connections and the possibility of disturbance during maintenance. He agreed it's worth thoroughly checking before jumping to conclusions about the fuel pump. Also told him about the corrosion issue you had and how the problem wasn't obvious at first glance. He's scheduled me in for tomorrow morning for a complete inspection. Interesting about your fuel consumption increase, I've been tracking mine and it's up by about 25%, so that's another matching symptom. Really hoping it turns out to be something simple like in your case. I'll definitely update this thread once I get the problem sorted. Thanks again for sharing your experience, might've just saved me from unnecessarily replacing my fuel pump!
