BMW X2 Battery Issues, Starting Problems & Weak Lights

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car has 22254 KM on it and I just got it serviced last month. Actually, now that you mention it, I did see a battery warning light pop up briefly last week, but it disappeared after restarting the car. The battery is still the original one from 2018. Maybe it's finally giving up? Pretty frustrating since everything else has been running smoothly until now. Would changing the battery be the first thing you'd recommend trying?

Hey again! Yes, I definitely think you should start with the battery since you're still running on the original one from 2018. That matches my experience perfectly, my X1 had similar symptoms when its battery was on its way out. These BMWs are pretty sensitive to battery health, and 5-6 years is typically when they start showing signs of weakness. When my battery was dying, I also got those intermittent warning lights that would come and go. It's actually pretty common in these models. The flickering lights and difficult starts are classic signs too. I learned the hard way that waiting too long can potentially cause other electrical issues in these cars. I'd recommend getting the battery tested ASAP. Most auto parts stores do this for free. In my case, once I replaced the battery, all those issues disappeared immediately. Just make sure whoever does the replacement knows how to properly register the new battery with the car's computer system, it's a BMW thing that's pretty important. Quick tip from my experience: If you do end up needing a new battery, don't go for the cheapest option. I initially tried to save some money with a budget battery, but ended up having to replace it again within a year. Worth spending a bit more for a quality one that'll last. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll definitely get the battery tested first thing tomorrow. Really appreciate the tip about battery registration too, I had no idea that was even a thing with BMWs! And point taken about not cheaping out on the replacement. Sounds like you learned that one the hard way, so I'll definitely go for a quality battery if that turns out to be the issue. Will probably go straight to the BMW dealer for this one, just to make sure it's done right. I'll update you once I get it checked out. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, super helpful!

"Some experience" level response: Hey! Had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X1 last year. Sounds exactly like what I experienced, turned out the previous repair shop messed up when replacing my alternator (bad connection). The symptoms match: dim lights, hard starting, error codes. Got lucky as the shop admitted their mistake and fixed it free of charge. Quick question though, have you noticed any battery/charging warning lights on the dash? Also, how old is your battery? This info would help narrow things down. I've also owned a BMW X3, so I'm quite familiar with these models. Happy to share more specific details once you provide that info!
