BMW X2 Call Issue: People Can't Hear You? Fix Inside
Summary of the thread
A 2020 BMW X2 is experiencing a phone-related issue where callers cannot hear the driver, despite a seemingly fine connection. The problem is suspected to be related to the hands-free microphone or possibly the infotainment system, as indicated by error codes and screen lag. A similar issue in a BMW X1 required replacing parts of the infotainment system, suggesting a potential common weak point around 150,000 KM. The recommended solution is to have the system checked and possibly repaired, with an expected repair time of about three days.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X2 is currently at 156092 KM and I've tried different phones but facing the same issue. Had my last service just two months ago and everything was working fine until last week. Actually, your mention of the infotainment system makes sense because I've also noticed some slight lag in the screen response lately. Didn't think these issues could be connected until now. This is definitely more helpful than what I found in the manual. Really hoping it won't cost as much as yours did to fix! Did you need to leave your car at the workshop for long?

Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, especially the lagging screen. When I had my X1 fixed, they needed to keep it for about three days. The actual repair work only took a day, but they had to order some specific parts first. Given that your X2 is showing similar signs to what my X1 had (screen lag plus the calling issues), I'm pretty convinced it's the same problem. The infotainment system in these models is pretty much identical. And actually, now that you mention the mileage, mine started acting up around the 150,000 KM mark too, must be some kind of common weak point. From my experience, the sooner you get it checked, the better. I initially tried to ignore the lag, thinking it wasn't related to the calling problem, but it just got worse over time. The good news is that once it's fixed, it should work good as new. Mine hasn't given me any trouble since the repair, and it's been over a year now. Let me know what you end up doing, I'm curious to know if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all this information! You've actually made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I've just called my local BMW workshop and managed to get an appointment for next week. Really grateful for the heads-up about the potential three-day repair time, helps me plan better with work and everything. It's actually quite reassuring to hear that you experienced similar issues around the same mileage mark. Makes me feel like it's not something I've done wrong but just a normal wear-and-tear thing. The fact that your repair has lasted over a year without any issues is exactly what I needed to hear. I'll definitely keep you posted about what they find. From everything you've described, I'm pretty sure you're right about it being the infotainment system. Fingers crossed it gets sorted as smoothly as yours did! Though I might need to start saving up just in case it does end up being an expensive fix. Really appreciate all your help with this!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, having owned a 2018 X1 and later an X3. Had almost the exact same problem with my X1! The hands-free system completely gave up, and people couldn't hear me during calls. After running diagnostics, it turned out the entire infotainment system was faulty. Took it to my regular workshop, and they had to replace several components of the system. The whole thing cost me around 815 Euro, but it's been working perfectly since then. I think it could be a similar issue to what you're experiencing, but just to be sure, have you checked if this happens with different phones? Also, which trim level is your X2? The system configurations can vary quite a bit between models, so that info would help me give you more specific advice. Feel free to share more details, and I'll try my best to help!
