Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This really sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working fine since they fixed it? I'm trying to get an idea of costs and whether this is likely to be a one-time fix or if I should expect more issues down the line.

Hey there! Happy to help with those details about my X3 repair. Yes, the whole thing cost me 1000 € to fix, they found a defective control unit in the MOST bus system that needed replacing. And I've got great news, since getting it sorted at the mechanic, everything has been working perfectly! The infotainment system is back to normal, with no problems at all. No more black screens or audio issues. I know these repairs can be pretty scary when you first encounter them, but honestly, once they find and fix the actual problem, these systems are pretty solid. I've put on quite a few miles since the repair and haven't had a single glitch. The key is really finding someone who knows what they're doing with BMW's MOST bus system, it made all the difference in my case. Trust me, I know it's not a small amount to pay, but it's worth getting it done right. Much better than dealing with a wonky infotainment system or risking bigger issues down the line.

Thanks a bunch for all the details! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my X2. Finally took it to a certified BMW specialist last week and you were spot on, it was indeed a MOST bus issue. The mechanic found a faulty fiber optic cable that was causing the whole system to fail. The repair took about a day and a half, and cost me around 850 €, not cheap, but actually less than I was expecting after hearing your story. They had to take apart some of the interior panels to get to the wiring, but the mechanic did a really clean job. Everything's working perfectly now, got my music, nav, and all the other features back. Honestly, I'm just relieved I found a trustworthy mechanic who knew exactly what they were doing. They even showed me the damaged cable and explained everything. No more black screens or system failures. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted properly!

Had the exact same issue on my 2017 BMW X3 30i last winter. The MOST bus failure shut down the entire infotainment system, no audio, no nav, black screen. Turned out the optical ring was broken due to a faulty amplifier module. The fiber optic cable wasn't transmitting signals properly through the network. Took it to the garage and they had to replace the amplifier unit and reprogram the MOST system. It was a serious repair since they had to disassemble part of the interior to access the components. The whole job took about two days because they needed to run multiple diagnostic tests after the replacement. These MOST bus issues can be tricky because one bad module can shut down the entire system. You definitely want someone who knows BMW's MOST architecture. Look for certified techs who have experience with BMW infotainment systems specifically. Hope this helps with your decision making. MOST failures aren't fun but they're fixable with the right expertise.
