BMW X2 Tailgate Failure: Hall Sensor Alert at 105K km

Need advice: BMW X2 2023 Tailgate problems Hey there! Has anyone dealt with tailgate issues on a 2023 X2? Mine's acting up at 105,329 km, won't open or close properly. Got an error code stored and I'm thinking it might be the hall sensor. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Would appreciate hearing about similar experiences and recommendations for fixing this issue. Did you manage to get it sorted, and what was the actual problem? Running a gas engine if that matters. Thanks in advance!

Had the exact same problem with my 2020 BMW X4 last summer. The tailgate would either stop halfway or not respond at all. After dealing with unusual failures for about two weeks, took it to a specialist. Turned out the wiring harness connecting to the control module had some damaged pins, and the cable insulation was wearing off. Apparently, this happens when the cables get repeatedly bent during tailgate operation. The fix wasn't actually that complex, they replaced the wiring harness and recalibrated the tailgate system. Not a super serious issue, but definitely something you want to address before it gets worse and potentially damages other components. If you're getting error codes, it's probably similar to what I experienced. Would recommend finding a good BMW specialist rather than a general mechanic, they'll know exactly where to look and what to check for these specific problems. Hope this helps with your X2 situation.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I had the exact same wiring harness issue with my X2, what a pain that was. The symptoms match perfectly with what you described. Would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the repair? Just want to make sure I wasn't overcharged. Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix? Mine's been good for about three months now, but I'm always a bit nervous when hitting that tailgate button!

Hey there! Good to hear back from you! Yeah, my repair turned out really well, the hall sensor fault is completely gone now. I paid 95 € for the fix, which was basically sorting out a dodgy cable connection. Honestly, it was cheaper than I expected, especially considering how annoying the problem was! Since getting it fixed last summer, the tailgate has been working like a charm. Haven't had a single problem with it. I totally get being nervous about hitting that button though, I was the same way for the first few weeks after the repair! But you can relax now, these fixes usually last. The key was having someone who knew what they were looking for, rather than just guessing at the problem. Sounds like we both dodged a bullet getting it fixed before it could cause any bigger issues. These electrical gremlins can be tricky, but once they're sorted properly, they tend to stay fixed. Keep enjoying your X2!

Thanks for the info! That's really helpful to know about the cost. I actually got it fixed last week, went to a new mechanic this time and had a much better experience. The whole repair, including parts and labor, set me back about 120 for my wiring issue. Bit more than yours but still reasonable. The funny part was watching the mechanic trace the problem. He immediately knew where to look and found the damaged wiring in minutes. Such a relief after my last mechanic spent hours just scratching their head! Now my tailgate's working perfectly, no more unusual stops or error messages. Best thing about the new place was how they explained everything. They even showed me exactly where the wiring was worn and why it happened. Really helped me understand what went wrong. Guess we both learned our lesson about finding the right specialist! Thanks again for sharing your experience, helped me feel better about the whole situation.
