BMW X3 AC Blower Dead & Smells: AUC Sensor Fault

Hi everyone! Getting some weird issues with my 2019 X3 (gas, 62k km). The AC recirculation seems messed up, there's a strong smell coming in when I'm stuck in traffic, plus the blower's totally dead. Got an error code for the AUC sensor too. Had some bad experiences with mechanics lately, so I'm a bit hesitant to just drive in somewhere. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate any input before I take it to a shop. Thanks!

Hey there! I can relate to your AC issues. Had something very similar happen with my 2016 BMW X1 last year. When the blower died and I got funky smells, it turned out the cable connection to the AUC (automatic air recirculation) sensor was corroded and partially disconnected. The symptoms were exactly like yours, dead blower and nasty smells during traffic stops. It wasn't a super serious issue, but definitely needed fixing as it affects both comfort and air quality inside the car. The mechanic found it during inspection and showed me the damaged connection. Had it fixed at the garage and the blower's been working perfectly since then, no more unwanted smells either. Make sure whoever checks it looks specifically at the wiring connections to the AUC sensor, as it's often overlooked. My whole thing got resolved in about half a day at the shop. You've got pretty much the same setup in your X3, so I'd bet you're dealing with a similar connection problem. Would get it checked soon though, as these issues tend to get worse over time.

Hey! I had the exact same problem with my X3, really glad you shared this! Your description perfectly matches what I experienced. Mine also got fixed with the wiring issue for the AUC sensor, just like you mentioned. Can't remember exactly how much I paid for the repair though, do you recall what they charged you? And has everything stayed working properly since your fix? Just curious if any other related issues popped up later. The whole corroded connection thing seems pretty common with these models. Guess we're not the only ones who've dealt with this!

Hey again! Glad to hear you got it sorted out with your X3! I actually just checked my old repair bill, it set me back 95 Euro to fix that pesky cable connection to the AUC sensor. Pretty reasonable considering what a pain those symptoms were. And yep, everything's been running smooth as silk since the fix! Not a single problem with the AC or blower, and no more nasty smells sneaking in during traffic. It's been such a relief, honestly. Haven't had any other related issues pop up either, seems like that corroded connection was definitely the culprit. You're right about it being a common thing in these models. Funny enough, I've chatted with a few other BMW owners at meets who've dealt with the exact same problem. At least it's a straightforward fix once you know what you're looking for. The mechanic showed me how those connections can get corroded over time, especially if you're dealing with different weather conditions. Let me know if anything else comes up with yours, but I bet you'll be good to go now that they've sorted that connection!

Thanks for sharing those details! Yeah, you're totally right, the repair cost was pretty reasonable for the headache it solved. Finally took my X3 to the mechanic yesterday after our chat. The whole process was way smoother than I expected. They found the exact same issue, corroded wiring to the AUC sensor. Fixed it up in about two hours. Mechanic was super helpful, actually showed me the damaged parts and explained everything. Cost me about the same as yours. The difference is incredible now, no more weird smells, and the blower's working perfectly. Such a relief! Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about finding the right mechanic. Thanks again for helping me figure this out. Really saved me from stressing over what could've been wrong. Feels great to have a properly working AC system again!
