Thanks for sharing your experience! My X3 has 11198 KM and had its last service about 2 months ago. The issue actually started quite suddenly, was working fine one day, completely dead the next. Haven't noticed any strange noises, it's just completely unresponsive. I appreciate the tip about the control unit, that's definitely something I'll look into. Since it's such a specific issue, I'll probably take it to a specialist rather than trying to diagnose it myself. Your insight really helps narrow down the possibilities.

Hey again! Thanks for providing those additional details about your X3. You know, after dealing with my own BMW AC issues, I've learned quite a bit about these systems. Since you mentioned it started suddenly and there are no strange noises, I'm even more convinced it could be the control unit like what happened with mine. The low mileage on your X3 and recent service actually makes this more interesting. In my case, after I got the control unit replaced, my mechanic mentioned that sometimes these units can fail regardless of mileage or maintenance, it's just one of those electronic components that can go bad without warning. Just to share a bit more from my experience, when my control unit failed, it was also a sudden thing, exactly like yours. Working perfectly one day, completely dead the next. And since you're not hearing any compressor noise (like I initially did with mine), it further points away from a mechanical compressor failure. I think you're making the right call by planning to take it to a specialist. These modern BMW AC systems are pretty complex, and after my experience, I wouldn't recommend trying to diagnose it yourself. The diagnostic equipment they use can pinpoint the exact issue, which saved me from unnecessarily replacing the compressor. Let us know what the specialist finds, would be interesting to see if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for all the detailed information! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through something so similar. You've definitely helped me feel more confident about what might be going on with my X3. I've actually just booked it in with a BMW specialist for tomorrow morning. After hearing about your experience, I'm hoping it's just the control unit rather than something more serious with the compressor. Will definitely let you know what they find, though I have a feeling you might be spot on with your diagnosis! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. It's exactly the kind of first-hand insight I was hoping to get when I posted my question.

Hi there! I have some experience with car repairs, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2006 BMW X1 last summer. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing, no cooling, AC not responding, and that annoying warning light. I initially thought it was the compressor too, but after taking it to my workshop, it turned out to be a faulty AC control unit. It wasn't a cheap fix (cost me about 980 Euro), but it solved the problem completely. The control unit basically manages the entire AC system, and when it fails, nothing works. I also own a BMW 3 Series, and these control units can be quite finicky in BMWs. Before jumping to conclusions about the compressor, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed. Could you share if you've noticed any other symptoms? Like strange noises when trying to turn on the AC, or if the issue started gradually or suddenly? Also, what's the mileage on your X3? This could help pinpoint the issue more accurately.
