BMW X3 ASC/ABS Issues: What's Causing the Jerky Ride?

Hi all! My 2012 BMW X3 has developed multiple issues, ASC and ABS stopped working, plus there's noticeable jerking during acceleration. I'm getting an ASC service warning and error codes. Has anyone encountered similar problems and got them fixed? Really interested to know what your mechanic found and how they resolved it. Looking forward to your input!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, having dealt with a similar issue on my 2014 BMW X1 last year. I'd call myself someone with low experience, I know the basics but leave the complex stuff to the pros. My car showed pretty much the same symptoms, ASC light, ABS acting up, and that annoying jerking during acceleration. Took it to my trusted workshop and they diagnosed a faulty ASC relay. Total bill came to 90 Euro, and it fixed all those issues completely. Before I can share more specific advice, could you tell me if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, when did these symptoms first appear, did they all start at once or gradually? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with exactly what I faced. Hope this helps point you in the right direction! With BMWs (I've also owned a 3 Series), these things can sometimes be interconnected, so it's worth getting it checked soon.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's sitting at 66218 KM, with the last service done about 3 months ago. I'm getting error code P0455, and yeah, all these issues started popping up at once last week, no gradual build-up. The jerking is most noticeable when I'm accelerating from a stop. It's really bothering me, especially since everything was running smoothly after the service. Definitely thinking it might be the ASC relay like in your case, though the error code seems to point elsewhere. Guess I'll need to take it to a specialist to know for sure.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your X3. You know, after hearing about the error code P0455 and the timing of these issues, I'm actually thinking it might be different from what I initially experienced with my X1. That P0455 code usually points to an EVAP system leak, which is separate from the ASC relay issue I had. But here's what's interesting, sometimes these symptoms can be misleading. When I first had my issues, I also thought it was just the ASC system, but my mechanic found that the wheel speed sensors were acting up too. Since you mentioned it all started after your recent service, I'd definitely get it checked by the workshop that did the work. Could be something they overlooked, or maybe something got knocked loose during the service. In my case, I learned that with BMWs, what seems like one problem can often be caused by something completely different. Have you noticed any fuel smell or has your fuel efficiency changed? These could be additional clues, given that P0455 code. Might be worth checking the gas cap too, sounds silly, but a loose cap has caused similar codes on my X1 before. Let me know what you find out, I'm really curious if it ends up being something similar to what I experienced or something completely different!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've given me a lot to think about. Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed a slight drop in fuel efficiency over the past week, though I haven't picked up any fuel smell. Just checked the gas cap and it seems tight, but I'll double-check that. You make a really good point about getting it checked at the workshop that did the recent service. I've already called them and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Mentioned both the P0455 code and the ASC/ABS issues, so hopefully they can piece it all together. You're right that these BMW issues can be tricky, one problem leading to another, or symptoms pointing in different directions. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and suggestions. I'll definitely update once I know what's actually causing all these problems. Thanks again for all your help!
