Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind telling me how much the whole alternator and battery replacement set you back? Also curious if you've had any other electrical problems since the repair was done? Really wanna make sure I'm prepared for what's coming!

Hey there! Just wanted to update you on my situation since I know you're dealing with something similar. After seeing the mechanic, it turned out I was lucky, my alternator was actually fine, unlike what I initially thought. The main issue was just the battery being heavily discharged and defective, causing those overvoltage warnings. Got it all sorted for 290 €, which was a huge relief compared to what I was expecting to pay for both parts! Haven't had a single electrical problem since the fix, no more warning lights, no weak starts, nothing. The car's running like a dream now. Much better than waiting until it completely died on me! Really glad I got it checked when I did. Hope this helps give you an idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise, though obviously, your issue might be different from mine.

Thanks so much for that update, what a relief to hear it worked out cheaper than expected! Finally took my X3 to get checked out today actually. You won't believe it, but it was almost exactly the same situation! The mechanic found my battery was shot and causing all those crazy electrical issues. The whole diagnostic process was super smooth, they hooked it up to their computer and spotted the problem right away. Ended up paying a bit more than you did since I also needed some cable terminals cleaned up, but still way better than an alternator replacement. Car's running perfectly now, all those warning lights are gone and it starts up like new. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it sorted before things got worse!

I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X5 last summer. The symptoms were identical, multiple warning lights, electrical system going haywire, and weak starts. Turned out it wasn't just a battery issue, but a failing alternator that was causing the battery to discharge and creating voltage fluctuations. Had to get both the alternator and battery replaced because the faulty alternator had damaged the battery over time. It was quite a serious repair since the alternator is crucial for the car's electrical system and battery charging. The symptoms you're describing sound very similar to what I experienced. My car was running perfectly after the repair. These electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose, but a proper BMW specialist should be able to run a full diagnostic test to pinpoint the exact problem. Better to get it checked soon before it leaves you stranded somewhere.
