Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the motor and wiring issues, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind sharing roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also curious if you've had any other problems with the sunroof system since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Since my last post, I got the sunblind fixed at a BMW specialist and it cost me 330 € for the motor replacement and labor. They had to deal with both the motor and some wiring issues, just as I mentioned before. The good news is that since the repair, everything's been working perfectly. The sunblind moves smoothly now, and that annoying error code is gone. No issues whatsoever in the past months, it's like having a new sunroof system! If you're still on the fence about getting it repaired, I'd say go for it. The cost was worth it to have everything working properly again, and it prevents any potential damage to other parts of the system. These sunblind motors are a bit of a weak point in our BMWs, but once fixed properly, they tend to stay fixed. Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Always happy to help another BMW owner!

I wanted to update everyone on my sunblind situation. After getting some great advice here, I took my X3 to a new BMW specialist last week. Turns out you were all spot on, it was definitely a motor issue, along with some fried wiring. The repair went pretty smoothly, though it took them most of the day to complete. They had to remove the headliner to access everything, but theyaged to fix both the motor and the wiring issues. The final bill came to around 400 €, a bit more than I'd hoped, but honestly worth every penny. Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice! The sunblind's now working perfectly, gliding back and forth like new. No more error codes either. If anyone else runs into this problem, definitely don't wait around like I did, getting it fixed sooner rather than later is the way to go. These motors might be a pain, but at least now I know what to expect if it happens again! Thanks again for all your help! Really appreciate having such a helpful community to turn to.

Hey there! I actually had the same issue with my 2017 BMW X5 last year. The sunblind motor completely failed, wouldn't budge an inch forward or back. Got the same error code too. My garage found that the motor had burned out and also damaged part of the wiring. It wasn't just a simple motor replacement; they had to repair some of the electrical connections as well. The whole job took about 4-5 hours because they needed to remove the headliner to access everything properly. It was a serious repair since it involved both electrical work and dealing with the headliner. The motor itself is a common failure point in these models, especially once you get past 100k kilometers. Worth noting that if you delay fixing it, you risk damaging other components connected to the sunroof system. I'd recommend getting it checked out soon by a BMW specialist who knows these systems well. Hope this helps with your decision making.
