Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! It really helps since I'm dealing with exactly this right now. I'm leaning towards taking it to a BMW specialist as you suggested, seems like the wiring harness issue could definitely be what I'm experiencing too. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, have you had any other related issues pop up since getting it fixed? Thanks again, really appreciate the detailed response!
Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Yeah, my situation turned out way simpler (and cheaper!) than I initially thought. After taking it to the specialist, they found it wasn't actually the entire harness that needed replacing, just a dodgy cable connection to the fuel pump that needed fixing. The whole thing only cost me 95€, which was such a relief because I was expecting much worse! Since getting it sorted, the car's been running like a dream, no stalling, no rough starts, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. It's been about eight months now, and I haven't had a single related issue pop up. Just make sure you get it checked out soon though. I got lucky with a simple fix, but these things can get more complicated if you leave them too long. The peace of mind is definitely worth it. Let me know how you get on with yours, always interested to hear if it's the same issue!
Hey! I really appreciate you following up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you. You won't believe it, it was exactly what you described! Found a bad connection in the wiring that was messing with the fuel pump. The mechanic showed me the corroded bits and everything. Cost me about 120 bucks for the repair, which was such a relief since I was expecting to shell out way more for a new fuel pump. Car's running perfectly now, starts right up, no more stalling, and the engine's purring like it should. Even filled up the tank yesterday and noticed the fuel consumption's back to normal. Such a weight off my shoulders! Thanks again for your advice about going to a specialist. Definitely made the right call there instead of taking it back to my usual guy. Really grateful for your help with this!
Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2017 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms matched yours exactly, rough starts, stalling, excessive fuel consumption, and that dreaded check engine light. Turned out the main wiring harness for my fuel pump had several damaged connections, causing intermittent power supply issues. It wasn't the pump itself, which is what I initially suspected too. The mechanic found corroded pins in the main connector, and there was some moisture damage to the wiring. This was actually quite serious since bad fuel delivery can damage other engine components if left unchecked. It took a complete harness replacement to fix it properly. Since the repair, my X5 has been running perfectly, no more stalling or rough starts. Based on your symptoms, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked soon, preferably at a BMW specialist. These issues typically don't resolve themselves and can lead to bigger problems. Just my experience with a similar situation, hope this helps.
