BMW X3 Warning Light Storm & Dead Cruise Control

My X3 is running great in general with only 7996 KM on it from the last service. Had this exact same thing happen to me! The issue started pretty suddenly last week. And yes, I notice it gets worse when turning the steering wheel sharply. Haven't spotted any other electrical problems yet, but it's really annoying when all those warning lights keep flashing. Your experience gives me hope it might just be a wiring issue and not something more serious. Thanks for mentioning the repair cost too, definitely sounds better than what I was worried it might be. Think I'll get it checked out this week just to be safe.

Hey again! Thanks for getting back with those details about your X3. Reading your description, I'm even more convinced now that you're dealing with the exact same issue I had with my X1. Those symptoms match perfectly, especially the part about it getting worse when turning the wheel sharply. That's exactly what happened with mine! Just to add to my previous experience, after the repair, my mechanic showed me the old wiring, and you could actually see where it had gotten worn from the constant movement of the steering wheel. Apparently, it's not super uncommon in these models. The wires can get stressed over time from all the turning motions. Since your car's only had 7996 KM since the last service, I'd definitely bring this up with your regular BMW mechanic. They should be able to sort it pretty quickly now that you know what to point them towards. In my case, once they knew where to look, the actual repair only took about an hour. Quick tip though, while you're waiting to get it checked, try to avoid sharp steering movements if you can. I learned this the hard way when I made the warning lights go completely crazy by taking a sharp turn into my garage! Let me know how it goes with the repair. Always good to compare notes with fellow BMW owners!

Thanks so much for all these details! Really helpful to know about the worn wiring being visible, I'll definitely ask my mechanic to check that specifically. You've honestly made me feel much better about this whole situation. Was starting to imagine all sorts of expensive repairs, but this sounds pretty straightforward. I'll definitely take your advice about avoiding sharp turns until I get it checked out. Already booked an appointment with my regular mechanic for tomorrow morning. They've always been good with my X3, so fingers crossed they'll spot the issue quickly now that I know what to tell them to look for. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. It's exactly the kind of real-world insight I was hoping to get before heading to the workshop. I'll certainly come back and update once it's fixed. Thanks again for the help!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, as I drive a 2014 BMW X1 (had a 3 Series before that). I'd say I have low experience, I know the basics but leave the complex stuff to pros. I actually faced a very similar issue last year. Multiple warning lights lit up like a Christmas tree, and my cruise control stopped working completely. Turned out it was just a faulty wiring connection in the steering wheel control module. My mechanic sorted it out by replacing some damaged cables and connectors. The whole thing cost me 95 Euro, and it's been working perfectly since then. Before I can help more specifically with your case, could you share: Has this started happening suddenly or gradually? Does it happen more when turning the steering wheel? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? This could help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
