BMW X4 Xenon Headlights Turning Purple, Help Needed!

Hey all, need some help with my 2019 BMW X4. Having issues with the lighting system, getting error messages in both the speedometer and error memory. The xenon lights are turning purple, and the turn signals are acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar lighting problems on their X4? Wondering what your mechanics found and how they fixed it. Looking for real experiences before heading to the shop. Any insights appreciated!

Hey there! I've had some experience with BMWs and dealt with something very similar on my 2017 BMW X3 (I also considered an X4 back then). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I faced, those purple xenon lights and funky turn signals were driving me crazy! Turned out it was a faulty wiring connection to the headlight unit. My mechanic found some corroded connectors that were causing all sorts of electrical gremlins. Got it fixed for about 95 Euro, they basically had to replace some cables and clean up the connection points. Been working perfectly since then, no more weird light shows! Before I can give more specific advice though, could you share: Current mileage on your X4? When did you first notice these issues? Are both headlights affected or just one side? Let me know these details and I might be able to help more specifically!

Thanks for the detailed response! Just wanted to add that my mileage is currently at 56878 KM, and I had my last service about 3 weeks ago. In my case, it started with the right headlight first, but now both sides are showing the same issue. The problem began just a few days after the service, which makes me wonder if something got knocked loose during maintenance. Your experience with the corroded connectors is really helpful, at least I know it might not be as expensive as I feared! Did your mechanic mention how long the repair typically takes? Hoping to get this sorted quickly since I rely on my car daily.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up details on your X4. Actually, your situation sounds even more similar to mine now that you've mentioned the timing with the service. In my case, the repair took about 2-3 hours total. My mechanic actually found that during the service, one of the techs had accidentally dislodged some of the wiring while doing routine maintenance. They probably didn't notice it at the time. The fact that your issues started right after service really rings a bell here! Since you're at 56878 KM, you're actually at a similar mileage to when I had my problem (I was around 54000 KM). The repair on my X3 was pretty straightforward, they basically had to reconnect everything properly and secure the wiring harness. They also applied some dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion. Quick tip though, make sure to keep your service records handy when you go in. Since the problem started right after service, you might be able to get this fixed under warranty or at least get a discount since it could be related to their work. That's what I did, and they were pretty understanding about it. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out. I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine!

That's really good to know about the repair time, 2-3 hours isn't bad at all! Thanks for the tip about the service records too, I hadn't even thought about that angle. I'll definitely bring that up when I take it in tomorrow. Since it started right after the service, you're probably right about something getting dislodged during maintenance. It's such a relief to hear that your fix was relatively simple and inexpensive. I was worried I'd be looking at replacing entire headlight units or something major like that! I've got all my paperwork ready to go, and I'll definitely push for them to check those connections first, given how similar our situations seem to be. Thanks again for all your help, it's made me feel a lot more confident about dealing with this. I'll update you once I get it sorted out!

I installed led lights and they put capacitators on led as there was error on dashboard. They are blinking due voltage check but i can not turn it off as it says frm module fault and even if i bypass that i enter code to continue it just dont complete the loading bar is not filling even after 10 minutes. Is it possible to turn off boltage monitoring in different way.

Hello Haris321, If your LED lights are blinking due to voltage checks and you're encountering an FRM module fault, ensure the installation of LEDs and capacitors is correct. You might need to update or reconfigure the FRM to accept LED lights, which can often be done through an OBD-II scanner with coding capabilities to disable voltage monitoring. If this approach fails, consider seeking professional help or installing a dedicated LED-compatible module. Given the complexity, especially with stalled processes like the non-completing loading bar, consulting an auto-electrician or a dealership may be necessary.
