Thanks for sharing your experience! My X5 just had its service last month and this issue popped up suddenly without any warning signs, no sluggish airflow or anything before. I'm getting error code 90-12 on the display. The mechanic availability is limited this week, so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible. Mine's at 146275 KM and has been pretty reliable until now, which makes this even more frustrating. Haven't noticed any water leakage, and the car's been garaged most of the time. That repair cost doesn't sound too bad, I was worried it might be something more serious. Did your mechanic mention how long the replacement job typically takes?

Yeah, totally get your frustration! When my X3 had the issue, it also came as a surprise even though I had those warning signs. That error code you're getting (90-12) is actually exactly the same one I had, it's typically linked to the blower motor circuit. The replacement job on my car took about 2-3 hours. My mechanic said BMWs of our generation are pretty straightforward for this kind of repair, which helps keep the labor costs reasonable. The most time-consuming part was actually getting access to the blower motor assembly. Since yours has similar mileage to what mine had (mine was around 152000 KM when it failed), it's probably just normal wear and tear. The good news is that once it's replaced, you shouldn't have any issues for a good while. My new blower has been working perfectly for over a year now. One thing I'd suggest though, when they replace it, ask them to check the drainage channels around the blower housing. Even though you haven't noticed any water, sometimes there can be subtle blockages that might affect the new motor's lifespan. My mechanic did this as a precaution, and I think it was worth it. Let me know how it goes when you get it fixed!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info, it's really helpful! That's great to hear it's likely a straightforward fix, and I'm relieved it's probably just the blower motor. Really appreciate the tip about checking the drainage channels too, I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. Just managed to book an appointment for next week, and knowing it'll probably take 2-3 hours helps me plan better. I'll make sure to get them to do a thorough check while they're at it, especially since they'll already have access to that area. The cost seems reasonable for a BMW repair, I was honestly expecting worse! Thanks again for sharing your experience. It's always reassuring to hear from someone who's dealt with the same issue and got it sorted without any major complications. I'll update you once it's fixed!

Hi there! I have some experience with cars and had a similar issue with my 2006 BMW X3 last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, no airflow at all and an error code. Turned out my blower motor was completely dead. Took it to my trusted mechanic who diagnosed and replaced it. The whole thing, including labor and parts, cost me around 365 Euro. While they were at it, they also checked the resistor and wiring, everything else was fine though. I'd actually dealt with sluggish airflow for a few weeks before it totally failed. Wish I'd had it checked sooner! What error code are you getting? And have you noticed any reduced airflow recently before it stopped working? This info would help understand if you're facing the same issue. Have you had any water leakage issues? Sometimes that can cause blower motor problems too.
