BMW X5 Rough Running and Stalling: Urgent Help Needed

Hey all! Having some serious trouble with my 2018 BMW X5 (46k km, gas engine). The car's running really rough, losing power, and stalling when idle. Check engine light is on and it failed emissions. Getting jerky acceleration too. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Thinking it might be fuel mixture related. Would appreciate hearing about your experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations. Thanks!

Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2015 BMW X3 last year. My car showed the same symptoms, rough idle, power loss, and that annoying jerky acceleration. Turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. When I took it to the garage, diagnostic tests confirmed that one of the injection valves was completely clogged and another was starting to fail. The mechanic showed me the buildup inside, pretty shocking actually. Had to replace two injectors and do a thorough fuel system cleaning. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, running with bad injectors can damage your catalytic converter and cause more engine problems. The repair took about a day and a half because they had to order the parts, but it was worth it. Car's been running smoothly ever since. Your symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced, so I'd strongly suggest getting those injectors checked soon. Don't wait too long on this one, bad injectors can cause more expensive problems if left unchecked. Best of luck with the repairs.

Thanks for sharing that, it's really helpful! You're probably right about the injectors since our symptoms match up so closely. I'll definitely get it checked out asap. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Actually just had my car fixed last week for the exact same issue you're describing. The total bill came to 515 € to replace the faulty injector, and I'm pleased to say it sorted out that Mixture preparation error completely. Since the repair, my X3's running like a dream, no more jerky acceleration, rough idle, or any of those annoying symptoms. It's amazing what a difference fixing a faulty injector makes! It's like driving a different car now. I haven't had a single issue since the repair. The engine's smooth, performance is back to normal, and no more warning lights. I'd definitely recommend getting yours checked out, sounds exactly like what I dealt with, and the fix, while not cheap, is totally worth it to get your car running properly again. The mechanic told me I caught it at a good time, apparently leaving it too long can lead to bigger problems. If you want more details about the repair, just let me know!

Thanks so much for all the info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You were spot on, it was definitely the fuel injectors. Had two of them replaced and got a full system cleaning done. Cost me a bit more than yours at 680 €, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The difference is incredible! No more stalling, the engine's running super smooth, and that annoying jerky acceleration is completely gone. The mechanic I found was really great too, showed me the old injectors and explained everything clearly. Such a relief after my last bad experience with repairs. Funny how we had such similar issues with our BMWs. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted quickly instead of waiting around and possibly causing more damage. The car feels like new again! Think I've finally found a trustworthy mechanic too, so that's a bonus. Thanks again for all your help!
