Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about your X5's ABS issue. Mine seems quite similar to what you went through with the sensor problems. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for here. Thanks again for the input!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about the costs and how it's been running. After getting my X5 fixed at the specialist garage, I paid exactly 1000 € for the whole job, that covered replacing the faulty control unit and all the programming work. I'm happy to report that everything's been running perfectly since the repair. The ABS warning light hasn't come on once, and the lateral acceleration sensor issue is completely sorted. It's such a relief not having to worry about it anymore! The braking system works like a charm now, just as it should. The shop did a really thorough job, and honestly, it was worth every penny considering how important the ABS system is for safety. If your issue is anything like mine was, getting it sorted with a proper BMW specialist is definitely the way to go. Just make sure they really know their stuff with the electronics, that's what made the difference in my case. Let me know if you need any other info. Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. Took your advice and found a BMW specialist, turns out I made the right call. They found that moisture had gotten into my sensor unit too, but luckily mine wasn't as severe as yours. The fix was cheaper than I expected, theyaged to clean and reseal the unit rather than replace the whole thing. Total bill came to about 400 € including diagnostic fees. Been driving it for a few hours now and the warning light's stayed off, plus the brakes feel much more responsive. Really grateful for your help in pointing me in the right direction. Would've probably spent way more if I'd gone to my regular mechanic who might've just replaced everything without checking properly. Thanks again for sharing your experience, definitely helped me make a better decision!

I had a similar issue with my 2011 BMW X5 35i last year. The ABS light kept coming on, and the diagnostic also pointed to the lateral acceleration sensor. After a thorough inspection at the garage, they found that the control unit was actually defective, not just the sensor. The repair involved replacing the entire ABS control module because water had gotten into the unit and caused corrosion. It was pretty serious since the ABS system is crucial for safe braking, especially in emergency situations. The work took about 4 hours, and they had to reprogram the new unit to sync with the car's systems. If your diagnostic is showing sensor issues, I'd suggest getting it checked soon. These problems typically don't fix themselves and can affect other safety systems like stability control. Based on my experience, you'll want to find a garage that specializes in BMW electronics, as these systems can be tricky to diagnose correctly.
