BMW X6 Air Suspension Failure, Symptoms and Solutions

Just had my car serviced at 154194 KM and wanted to chime in. I can definitely confirm that checking the electrical connections first is the smart move. My suspension was acting up similarly, thought it was the compressor too, but turned out the problem was much simpler. The module itself was actually fine, but there was a corroded ground wire causing all sorts of chaos with the system. Pretty much had all those same symptoms you're describing. The whole electric connection check and fix was way cheaper than replacing the compressor would've been. My mechanic basically traced all the connections and found the culprit in about an hour. Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Let us know what you find out!

Hey again! Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, I remember dealing with my X4's issues and it's great to hear your problem had a similar, relatively simple fix. These BMWs can be tricky with their electronics, right? When I read about your ground wire issue, it reminded me that I actually had a secondary problem pop up a few months after my initial fix. The warning lights came back on briefly, and I was worried the issue had returned. Turned out there was some residual corrosion in another connector that we hadn't spotted the first time. My mechanic gave all the connection points a thorough cleaning and applied some dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion. Haven't had any problems since then. Quick tip from my experience, I now make it a habit to have all the suspension system's electrical connections checked during regular service. It's saved me from potential headaches, especially since these systems are so sensitive to electrical issues. Have you noticed any improvements in the car's performance since the fix? My X4's handling became noticeably smoother after we sorted out all the connection issues. Would be interesting to hear if you've had similar results!

Thanks for sharing those extra details about your X4! Yeah, I've got to say, after getting my ground wire sorted out, the difference has been like night and day. The ride height is perfectly level now, all those annoying warning lights are gone, and the headlights are properly aligned again. Even the reduced engine power issue cleared up completely. The mechanic actually showed me where that corroded ground wire was, it was in such a weird spot that I can see why these issues get misdiagnosed as compressor problems so often. Total bill came to about €200, which feels like a bargain considering I was bracing myself for a much more expensive compressor replacement! Really appreciate everyone's input on this. I've definitely learned my lesson about checking the simpler stuff first before assuming the worst. I'm also going to follow your advice about getting those connections checked during regular service, seems like a smart way to catch these issues before they become real problems. Thanks again for all the help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW X4 last year (I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance). The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, my X4 was showing the same warning lights and had similar ride height problems. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty wiring connection to the air suspension control module. My trusted mechanic found that the cable had become loose and slightly corroded. The fix was relatively straightforward, they cleaned the connection points and secured the cable properly. The whole thing cost me 95 Euro, which included diagnostic time. Before jumping to conclusions about the compressor (which can be much more expensive), you might want to have the electrical connections checked first. Could you share: Are you hearing any unusual noises from the suspension? When did you first notice the issue? Have you had any recent work done on the car? I'd be happy to share more details once I know a bit more about your specific situation!
