BMW X6 Battery Death Signs: Dim Lights & Starting Issues

Help needed, 2017 BMW X6 electrical issues and starting problems Having issues with my 2017 X6 (gas engine). Car struggles to start, lights are dim/flickering, and multiple system failures popping up. Scanner shows undervoltage codes. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Interested in hearing what the actual problem was and how your mechanic fixed it. Any tips or experiences would be helpful.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW X5 last year (also drive an X3). I've got some experience working on cars, but electrical issues can be tricky. Those symptoms sound exactly like what I faced, dim lights, hard starts, unusual warning lights. Turned out my battery was completely shot. The workshop did a full electrical system check and confirmed the battery was the culprit. Had it replaced for about 290 Euro, and all problems disappeared instantly. What's your mileage and is this the original battery? Also, have you noticed if the problem gets worse after short trips or when it's cold? These details would help confirm if we're dealing with the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 has 16379 KM and just had its latest service done. The issues definitely get worse after short trips. Been noticing the starting problem is more prominent in the morning. Your battery diagnosis makes a lot of sense, probably time to get mine tested too since I'm still running on the original one. Thanks for the tip, will schedule a check-up and hopefully it's just that simple of a fix!

Glad I could help! Yeah, those symptoms match my experience perfectly. When you mentioned the morning starts being worse, that's exactly what happened with my X5 too. Even with relatively low mileage, these BMW batteries can go bad, especially with lots of short trips that don't give them enough time to fully recharge. Just to give you my full experience, after I got the new battery installed, it took about 24 hours for all the systems to reset properly. Don't worry if you still see some warning lights right after the replacement. The computer needs time to readjust all its settings. One thing I learned from my experience, might be worth asking the shop to do a charging system test too while they're at it. My alternator tested fine, but it's good to check everything while they're poking around in there. Just the battery replacement fixed all my issues though. Let us know how it goes after you get it checked! From what you're describing, I'd bet money it's the same issue I had.

Thanks so much, that's really helpful info! Good to know about the 24-hour system reset, would have definitely panicked seeing warning lights after the replacement. Just called my regular shop and they can check the battery and charging system tomorrow morning. Really appreciate you mentioning your experience with this, saved me a lot of worry about potentially bigger issues. Will post an update once I get it sorted! Thanks again for taking the time to help out a fellow BMW owner.
