BMW X6 Brake Warning: Signs of Dangerous Fluid Loss?
Spongy/unresponsive brakes

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 has 42740 KM on it, and I just had my latest service about two months ago. The mechanic didn't mention any brake issues then, which makes this situation even more puzzling. The symptoms appeared quite suddenly, and I'm a bit worried since the car was running perfectly fine until now. Based on what you're saying about your experience, I should probably get it checked right away. Better safe than sorry with brake problems, right? Thanks for the heads up about the potential costs too, really helpful to know what I might be looking at.
Hey again! Looking at your mileage and recent service history, this does sound quite different from what I experienced with my X5. Since your car was checked just two months ago and the problems appeared suddenly, I'm actually leaning away from my initial thought about worn brake pads. Those usually show gradual signs of wear. My gut feeling now is that you might be dealing with a sensor issue or possibly an ABS module problem. After I switched to my X3, I actually had a false brake warning that turned out to be a faulty sensor, much cheaper fix than my previous brake pad disaster! The symptoms were pretty similar, warning lights, weird pedal feel, the whole nine yards. Still, I'd get it checked out ASAP. With these BMWs, there's always a chance that one issue is connected to another. I learned that lesson the hard way! Have you noticed any other changes, like unusual noises when braking? That might help narrow things down. Also, might be worth calling the workshop that did your service two months ago, they might even look at it for free since it's so soon after your last visit. Let us know what you find out, I'm really curious to know what's causing this in your case. These newer models can be tricky with all their sensors and electronic systems!
I'd say thanks for the additional insights, that's really interesting about the sensor issue you had with your X3! You've actually made me feel a bit better about the situation. I haven't noticed any unusual noises when braking, which I guess could support your theory about it being more of an electronic issue than a mechanical one. I'll definitely take your advice and contact my regular workshop first, especially since they did the recent service. You're right that they might check it for free given how recently they worked on it. The more I think about it, the more it does seem like it could be sensor-related since everything was fine during the service and the problem came on so suddenly. I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow morning and get it checked out. Really appreciate everyone's help here, it's always nerve-wracking when these warning lights pop up, but you've given me a much clearer picture of what might be going on. I'll make sure to update once I find out what's actually causing the problem!
Hey there! I have some experience with cars and had a very similar issue with my 2013 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. My brake warning light came on suddenly, and the pedal started feeling spongy. Initially thought it was just low fluid too, but when I took it to my regular workshop, they discovered my brake pads were seriously worn down, and the rotors needed attention too. The whole job, including parts and labor, cost me around 480 Euro. I'd really suggest getting it checked ASAP, brake issues aren't something to mess with. Could you tell us the mileage on your X6? Also, when was the last time you had your brakes serviced? This info would help determine if we're looking at the same problem. Love these cars (I switched from an X5 to a X3 recently), but they do need proper maintenance, especially the braking system.
