BMW X6 Display Flickering & Audio Dead, Help Needed

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2014 BMW X5 last year. Got this annoying flickering display and total audio failure too. As someone with some basic car maintenance experience, I first tried the usual reset tricks, but nothing worked. Took it to my regular workshop, turns out the iDrive display unit was faulty and needed replacement. The whole thing, including labor, set me back about 725 Euro. Good news is that it's been working perfectly since the fix. What's your mileage on that X6? Also, when did these symptoms first start? Sometimes these issues can be related to software updates or connection problems, but knowing more details about your car's history would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem I had. If you're getting error codes, mind sharing what they are? Could give us a better idea of what's going on with your system.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 is at 54016 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. These problems started popping up last week out of nowhere. Error code shows P1234, but honestly, your situation sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Great to know a replacement fixed it completely. Did you get any warning signs before the display started acting up? And was your audio cutting out completely or just being spotty? Really hoping it won't cost me an arm and a leg to fix this.

Hey again! Yeah, looking back at my X5's issues, they're definitely similar to what you're experiencing. The error code you mentioned (P1234) is exactly what I got too. Before the display went completely haywire, I did notice some minor glitches, like the screen taking longer to start up in the morning and occasional audio stuttering. But then it quickly escalated to that constant flickering and total audio failure within about a week. The audio just completely died, no sound at all, not even system beeps. And get this, my issues also started pretty suddenly after a routine service (about 2 months after, in my case). My car had around 58000 KM at the time, so pretty close to your mileage too. One thing I didn't mention in my first reply, before replacing the iDrive unit, my mechanic tried reinstalling the software, thinking it might be a cheaper fix. But that didn't solve it. The symptoms were just too similar to what you're describing to be anything else but a faulty display unit. Just a heads up, while that 725 Euro hurt at the time, I'd say it was worth it rather than trying cheaper fixes that might not work. The new unit has been solid for over a year now. Hope this helps with your decision-making!

Thanks so much for all those details! it's kind of weird how similar our situations are, right down to the timing after service and everything. I'm actually relieved to hear your mechanic tried the software reinstall first because I was wondering about that as a cheaper option. But given how identical our symptoms are, especially with that same error code and the whole audio system being dead, I'm pretty much convinced it's the iDrive unit. Think I'll just bite the bullet and go for the full replacement rather than waste time and money on temporary fixes. 725 Euro isn't cheap, but it's better than dealing with a fancy car with no working entertainment system! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid a lot of trial and error. I'll schedule an appointment with my workshop tomorrow to get this sorted. At least now I know exactly what I'm walking into!

2013 BMW F31, the Aux input suddenly stopped working. I installed an Android screen. The sound goes through the Aux input in the center console. It worked for a day. The next day, on the way to work, there was no more sound. The signal comes from the screen when I connect a speaker.

Check if the Aux cable is securely connected at both ends and inspect it for any visible damage. If the cable seems fine, try using a different Aux cable to rule out a faulty cable. If the issue persists, ensure that the Aux input is selected as the audio source on your car's system. If everything checks out and the problem continues, there might be an issue with the Aux port itself or the Android screen's output settings. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
