BMW X6 Engine Troubles: Fuel Injectors or Something Else?
Summary of the thread
A 2019 BMW X6 is experiencing engine troubles, including rough running, starting difficulties, increased fuel consumption, and power loss. These symptoms, along with a failed emissions test, suggest potential issues with the fuel injectors. A similar case with a BMW X5 revealed clogged injectors as the cause, which were resolved through cleaning and replacement. The recommended solution is to have the injectors cleaned and possibly replaced, which should restore engine performance and resolve the emissions issue.

Hey Dave! Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! This really sounds like what I'm dealing with. Nice to hear it wasn't something more serious. Did you remember roughly how much the whole service set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Great to hear back from you! Actually, since I wrote my first reply, I took my X5 to the mechanic and got everything sorted out. They found a defective injection nozzle and fixed it right up. Set me back 515 € for the injection valve repair, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's running like a dream now, way better than before. Haven't had a single issue since the fix, which was about two months ago. Starting is smooth, power delivery is spot on, and fuel consumption is back to normal. Even my wife noticed the difference when she drove it last weekend! Was actually thinking about you when I got it fixed, knowing you were dealing with similar symptoms. If yours is anything like mine was, getting those injectors sorted should do the trick. The peace of mind alone is worth it, trust me. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Hey Dave! Thanks so much for the update! I actually took your advice and got my X6 checked out last week. You were spot on, it was definitely the injectors. Had all of them cleaned and two replaced. The mechanic I found was really thorough and showed me the gunk buildup in the old ones, pretty shocking stuff! The whole thing cost me a bit more than yours, but what a difference! Car's running smooth as silk now, starts right up every time, and my fuel consumption has dropped back to normal. Even passed the emissions test yesterday with flying colors! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid what could've been a much bigger headache down the road. Guess sometimes you just need a push in the right direction from someone who's been there. Thanks again for all the help!

I had very similar issues with my 2016 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms matched yours exactly, rough idle, hard starts, poor fuel economy, and lack of power. Initially thought it was something major, but it turned out the injectors were just heavily clogged. At the garage, they did a complete fuel injection cleaning service. They had to remove and ultrasonically clean all injectors, plus replace two that were beyond saving. The mechanic showed me the carbon buildup, it was pretty bad. The whole process took about a day. This isn't typically a serious issue if caught in time, but ignoring it can lead to bigger problems with the fuel delivery system. After the service, my car ran like new, smooth idle, quick starts, and power was fully restored. Since you mentioned emissions, that was also fixed after the injector service. These symptoms are classic signs of dirty injectors in BMWs, especially at your mileage point. Regards, Dave
