BMW X6 Keyless Entry Failure, Door Handle or Battery?

Hey everyone! My 2015 BMW X6 (gas, 189k km) is acting up and I need some advice. The keyless entry stopped working completely, and I'm getting error messages about open-circuit current and battery issues. Think it might be the door handle electronics since I had a sketchy experience with my last mechanic who worked on something similar. Has anyone dealt with this before? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for trustworthy mechanic recommendations too since my last experience wasn't great. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW X5 last year. The keyless entry failure turned out to be a faulty door handle sensor module with corroded wiring connections. At first, I thought it was just a battery problem, but the diagnostic revealed more. My mechanic found that moisture had gotten into the handle assembly and damaged the connections. They had to replace the door handle sensor unit and rewire some connections. It wasn't a quick fix, took them about 4 hours to complete the job. This is actually a known issue with these models when they get older. Not a catastrophic problem, but definitely something you need to address soon since it can affect other electrical systems. The open-circuit warnings you're getting are typical symptoms of this issue. Got mine fixed right away because I didn't want it spreading to other modules. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with BMW electronics, they need specific diagnostic tools for these systems.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms right now with my X6. Good to know about the moisture causing issues with the wiring, that makes total sense given all the error messages I'm getting. Quick question though, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about the repair costs and how things went. After I took it to the mechanic, they fixed the door handle electronics issue completely, turned out to be exactly what I thought with the faulty connections. Only ended up costing me 95 € to fix the cable and plug connection, which was a relief since I was worried it might be something more serious! Everything's been working perfectly since the repair, no more keyless entry problems or weird electrical issues. The car's running like a charm now. Such a relief when you find out it's just a simple connection problem rather than something major, right? Honestly, it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly by someone who knew what they were doing with BMW electronics. If you're still having those error messages, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. These electrical gremlins can be a real pain if you let them go on too long. But based on what you're describing, sounds exactly like what I dealt with, so hopefully it'll be a straightforward fix for you too!

Thanks for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update everyone. You were spot on about getting it checked quickly. Took it to a certified BMW specialist and they diagnosed it right away. Funny enough, my issue was slightly different, turned out to be a worn-out door latch mechanism that was sending false signals to the computer. The repair was pricier than yours at about €450, but they also found and fixed some corroded wiring while they were at it. The mechanic was super thorough and showed me all the damaged parts. The whole thing took about three hours, but it was worth the wait. Just did a test drive and everything's working perfectly now, no more error messages, and the keyless entry is as smooth as when I first got the car. Definitely learned my lesson about going to qualified specialists for these electronic issues! Really appreciate everyone's input on this. It helped me know what to expect and what questions to ask at the shop. Now I can finally stop carrying around my key like it's 1995!
